    Hmmmm

should I perhaps rename this Lula's Literary thread

I love having these educated, highbrow types like sarah & makeup on here, makes me seem far more intelligent too ;)

Shoe Gal - I tend to go the library & have a look at the 'quick choice' display, if nothing there grabs my attention then I move on to the 'Richard & Judy's bookclub' display, if still nothing then I tend to head for either authours who's previous books I've read, or the paperback stand :D.

I dont buy any celeb or tv type mags as I dont really have an interest in those types but I did used to love marie claire & glamour until I gave up buying clothes& shoes :( & I also used to devour any type of house decorating, styling type mag - which would really surprise you if you were to catch a glimpse of my home :rotfl:

I am planning a secret assualt on sarah's self help library index in the near future too ;)

Now Easy Living isnt a bad magazine and they do have nice freebies occasionally.

I keep buying Take a Break and other nonsense like that because I am persuaded by the silly headlines like "my husband lost his virginity in my boobs" and other such silliness:rolleyes: I read them and the problem page and chuck 'em in the recycling.

Yawn...best head off to bed now.

Did you see the news the other day - some twit playing football got a red card for letting rip with some marsh gas:eek:

Thanks Lula, I will try not to drag the thread down so much :rotfl::rotfl:Have had Captain Corelli's Mandolin in a drawer for ages - would that be a start?

PS. your comment about your home/decorating mags made me think about how many diet/fitness mags I have compared to my current weight/fitness levels :rotfl::rotfl:

Gargoyles is a Richard and Judy book and I cannot implore you enough to buy it, it has everything and is the sort of book you are still thinking about days later. It really is magnificent.

Start with The Law of Attraction by Michael Losier. Think it's about £10 and is very short, but is a good start to the idea of the Law of Attraction. I have much more detailed and cheaper books, but that one is a great start.

Also have that lying around somewhere and I have tried to start it at least 3 times but I just can't get into it. Hope it's the book and not me:D (Might just rent the film instead):o

Shoe Gal sweetie, you couldnt possibly drag this thread down :A;)

I've never read Captain Corelli & at this point I should probably admit that I still havent read pride & prejudice which my grandmother gave me about 20 years ago :o . There are many so called classics that I havent read :o - I'm saving them for my retirement :rotfl:

Thanks for the tips sarah - am due to visit the library again this week. I've just finished Cost by Roxana Robinson which I really enjoyed. There is some great insight into the thoughts people have & how they interact with others based on these thoughts rather than actually communicating. The story is a bit grim as it's about the younger brother in a family who becomes a heroin addict. It doesnt set out to shock or sensationalize that, but it does give a very clear picture of how an addict feels & behaves according to that. I found it really interesting although I've never been in the slightest bit tempted to dabble with hardcore drugs. When I was about 15 I read a book called Go ask Alice about a heroin addict which really was shocking & very gritty but 'cost' has a kind of beauty about it too. You probably all think I'm mad, but i like to know about this stuff
