Buy a packet of plain biscuits, plain gingerbread men if you can afford them and decorate them with those ready to use icing tubes you can get. They come in all colours, it's good fun, I think even the boys will like this because they can eat the end results :-)
You can buy the little tubs of cake decorations for extra fun if money allows or just small sweets like jelly tots or smarties.
Might also need a plastic table cover to put down and small sandwich bags to take them away. Both sold in the £ shop.

My lads used to love a tray with salt in it (can be reused over and over again) - make it into roads and they can play toy cars for hours. Libraries are great - little freebies; storytimes and crafty type things, especially at weekends and school holidays; a football and a park go quite a long way, too - I'm sure you've thought of all these things, but just trying to rack my brains for what I did with my kids when they were little that gave us good times but didn't come with a price tag. Is there a friendly primary or pre-school near you that might have some spare games to borrow/scrap paper to scrounge? There was a social services toy library when my kids were little that was invaluable, because kids get more pleasure out of a few but different toys than they ever do out of expensive ones. If you can get over your misgivings about the service overall, they may have something like that you can use. It's the kind of thing they're supposed to support.

Mostly, though, what your children will benefit from is time with you. Keep believing in that and you're halfway there.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!

If you want lots of scraps of paper, why not make friends with a local printer, and see if they can put some off-cuts your way?

This may not help but if you go to the faqs on here http://www.naccc.org.uk/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=0&Itemid=151
you could find out if there is a child contact centre near you. We have one at our church and it is staffed by friendly volunteers- there are loads of toys and activities. They don't list them but you can send an email to them and they will tell you if there is one near you??
Hope things get better for you

is it just a microwave that you have get to make their meals with?
:Sometime I try to be NORMAL. . . But it gets boring so I go back to being me. . .
  • if they like maths or numbers in general how about counting games you could use buttons beads pasta anything put them in little piles for little ones and make up sums with more than one pile for the older ones if they get the sum right they win the beads when all the beads are won count them up to see who has the most they are the winner. also the girls might like pasta jewllery paint pasta and thread it on wool or string to make necklaces bracelets etc. for the boys washing up liquid bottle space ships. also what about a special times book get a notepad or scrapbook and every time you spend time together fill in a page with pictures and words to remember that day then on future visits you can look back at other pages and remember what you did it all reinforces good memories for your children of this time rather than remembering not being with you. i wish you all the best for the future.
