    I also dont think Avira is running correctly

    When you can ~ uninstall it

    Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
    Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
    Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

    Reinstall it
    Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')

    Thanks Rik. By the way, I ran Hijack in Safe mode, does that make a difference?

    I didnt realise ~ yes it does

    Needs to be run in normal mode (And forget the AVIRA post above)

  • Hi Rik. Tried to run combofix but got about 9 mins in then crashed, rebooted and normal mode went almost immediately to 'frozen'.
    shall I try again to run Hijack in Normal mode?:rolleyes:

    Also, Avira was up to date but got to 99% then crashed and rebooted!

    Really struggling to post the file.Keeps crashing even in safe mode.!
    have to go check on my father now but will try later and hope you're around.
    By the way, it seems Zone Alarm has disappeared!! Def not coming up in the system tray in Normal or safe mode.

    Can the PC stay active enough for you to back up your important documents and files?

    I think a complete Windows reinstall might be the only solution. Follow the advice above first, though...

    With Nick on this one see if you can get copies of personal files and folders and llok for your WIndows disc / System recovery discs supplied by PC manufacturer
