There is surely a difference between helping a friend out, i would happily go out of my way 80 miles a day to help a friend for a week or so, but to do it full time, I would charge!

i agree , also were they true friends before the lifts started , or is it just a collegue wanting a ride and now calling him "mate"

doesnt really matter what other people would do , or if they get carpets fitted for free , this guy wants his £200 and thats that , i think any mention of being taken advantage off will result in a big F.O or a punch on the nose

I think it's a reasonable amount - assuming he doesn't have to pay during the school holidays!
With reference to an earlier post about divving up after a meal; I think the fairest way is for everyone to put in what they think their meal cost then if there's a shortfall to share that equally between everyone. That way the person having a cheap meal isn't hugely subsidising the others.

or maybe they could all pay exactly the same amount, and just revel in the joy of being out on a great evening with all their best buddies, enjoying their precious time together, without putting any unequal value on the whole episode?

    just a thought:confused:

I charge £4 per day (£20 the week) for the same sort of mileage, and I think that's reasonable. One of my best friend's also used to travel with me everyday until she moved to another town. I couldn't charge her any less than anybody else, although money would never have been an issue. It was a win-win. She could have always drove herself in which would have cost around £60 per week.

How is it "their fair share"???

The people NOT paying "their fair share" are those that had the more expensive things & want to pay the same as those that picked cheaper things.

Mrs E - you've missed my point. In my scenario, everyone had agreed BEFOREHAND to split the cost and then one person sees the bill and reneges on the deal. That IS unfair by anyone's standards!
