For those asking whether Divx files can be played directly from a USB HDD, I purchased a portable DVD player (from Pixmania, incidentally) which has a USB port and is Divx compatible. It does play from the USB HDD but the movie tended to occasionally freeze and the fast-forward/rewind functions were a little flaky. I burned the same Divx file to a DVD-RW and it played perfectly. I'm guessing that the way data is transferred via the USB port is more suited to viewing files such as JPG's and short video clips rather than full length movies.

I have found the same, the Divx file occasionally lost sync but if you pause and then play it goes OK.

The most stuttering problems occur when you have a sweeping pan where there is lots of movement going on in the scene.

The Fast Forward is limited to 4x from an external HDD, I think this is a limitation of the USB being only 1.1.

I also tried playing a divx from an SD card (in a single slot reader), which was a bit jerky so the speed of the card is probably an issue. (I'm not sure what speed card I used).

I also tried a multi slot USB adapter and this didn't work at all just sat there with the LED flashing for 5 min's.

As for playing from disc it played some that my Yamada 6600 wouldn't play.

Verdict: - Not bad for the money but definitely not perfect and it plays region 1 discs out of the box.

I ordered the IISONIC and it arrived last week, so far we've only watched 3 XviD movies on it which were burned onto CDR using Nero and they played fine all the way through. I did try to play one directly from a USB 2.0 Flash Drive and it was fine until 10 minutes of play had passed then the movie started jerking, had to abort. Not sure why this is, I remember someone saying the player might only have a USB 1.0 port!? Anyway so far so good :T (apart from USB).

jamie Hows you experince with the player now after 1 month and over?
    Hows the remote control?
how fast is fast forward and rewind and is it done smoothly or just flickers through I mean do you get moving images like vcr or paused pics like my brothers dvd player.

I am getting tired of waiting for yamada 6800 and now the whsmith dont do the yamada 6700 I am confused I need a good divx player.

You can get the Yamada 6800 from Ebay for £36.71 plus postage from a German supplier, I have heard of one UK buyer doing this and he said no problems getting it to work

Please forgive my ignorance but I, like many others here want a DVD player for around the £50 mark (or less if poss!) that does the following:

    1) Plays divx
    2) Allows me to load text based subtitle files so taht I can play them with foreign films (it is tedious burning them onto the file using virtualdub)
    3) Has a menu that shows more than 8 characters of the file name - jsut used a Yamada abroad that did that and it was very annoying!

The thrid point is not too critical though. Is there anything about now that covers these requirements.
  • Peekton 6006 from Pixmania at £48 delivered.

Has score of 58% and is 6th on the Divx v2 Test results list.
