Right - baby questions
How many sheets do you lot reacon I need for Roo's moses basket that we bought today?I have 2 sheets and 2 cellular blankets.and in terms of duvet etc for her basket You won't need a duvet, just sheets/blankets. I think anyway that you mustn't use duvets. I know it used to be the case when mine were little. Anyone know if that still stands?! - what type, size, thickness should I get??? reading Princess's story has just scared DH and I into action realizing that we need to get all this organised NOW just in case!
Apart from the moses basket, sheets and duvet will I need anything else when she comes home from hospital as far as sleeping goes?
Have nappies (thank you Boots!), baby wipes, cotton wool balls, sudocrem, baby powder (and everything else that comes in the Johnsons boxes that were in the Asda baby event hehehehe), changing mat and table.
Need top and tail bowl I've never used a top and tail bowl - I don't see the point to be honest. and baby bath - anything else I need for changing and cleaning the little mite? Baby sponge/flannel? Baby bath? I mean as in what you pour into the bath, not the actual bath lol What about a bath support? I've just got one of those sponge ones which goes in the bath.
Clothes... have a couple of bits but need more sleep suits without and with legs, socks, and mittens (although I could just get enough socks and give them double use lol). Need muslins etc from JL when I get a chance and a baby sling... have buggy and car seat...
OK - have I forgotten anything???

Sheets for MB - 4 fitted, 2-4 flat. Gives you then chance to change if sick in MB without needing to put a wash on imm to make sure you have clean ones if it happens again. You don't need a duvet for MB - use sheets and blankets - much easier to regulate the temp that way - and yr baby is due in May. Blankets - depends if you only have wee ones for MB/ pram, or some big cot ones (which can be folded in half and then = 2 blankets) I had 4 layers of blankets on for my winter babies (Dec & Jan, with snow just after the Dec one), 2 for my April one. I worked on the view that a towel could be used as a blanket if necessary! Stand for MB is a good idea, if you haven't got one.
You don't need a top and tail bowl. I used one briefly for first and then never again - just use 1 or 2 small plastic tupperware type bowls from your kitchen. Less space (top and tail bowls are big for a tiny baby!) and can be used long after bubs has stopped using t&t bowl! A baby bath is a good idea, although not essential. If you travel with baby, don't bother taking bath (takes up lts of room) - wash her in sink/ washing up bowl.
Baby Gap socks actually stay on teeny tiny feet. Never found another brand which will (unless over a sleepsuit) Scratch mittens handy - but you can get 2 pairs in places like Tesco for 50p - £1. That will be enough (you'll get bored of putting them back on all the time when they fall off)
Muslins - if you want to buy them from JL, order them online - free postage and you can get cashback too:money: A soft cotton flannel can be handy to use wet to wipe over babe's hair - you don't need masses of shampoo/ bubble bath - they don't really get dirty when tiny (once they've been cleaned after birth!) And hooded towels are SO cute and wrap them up nicely when teeny!
Don't forget maternity pads and breast pads for you (and old knickers or paper ones)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Tine/Shellsuit - yep, no duvets for babies under 12 months. That's according to the labels on all the bedding sets I've looked at anyway.
Tine - one other option would be those baby sleeping bags. I looked in Tesco this week and they've got them for £10 in cream, blue and pink. Not sure if they're cheaper anywhere else. On them, it says they mustn't be used for babies under 7lb 7oz, so in case you have a small 'un, I guess it's good to be equipped with blankets/sheets too but lots of my friends have recommended them. I think the label said they were equivalent two two blankets and a sheet (or that might have been two sheets and a blanket)
I don't know if I've missed any previous postings saying bad things about them, but everything I've heard about them has been positive so plan on buying one or two, along with some blankets and sheets.0 -
Have maternity pads/paper knickers/old panties (I opted for both so that I have a choice lol) and breast pads
Was going to crochet some flannels myself out of cottonwoolThankfully they are incredibly quick to knock up
Also have a hooded towel but only one at the moment - will get more as I do think they're SOOOO cute
Also going to crochet blankets for the moses basket so must get the wool for that - I figure that if they aren't ready and baby is early then I can get DH to pick one or two up from Tesco if need be?
Have stand for moses basketGot it in sale from Babies'R'Us - i wanted a rocking one but a very specific one and managed to get it for £10 - result!
Sinks in our house will never be big enough to wash a bairn in so will need something... Might get something like one of those collapsible baths you can get that you can use for a little baby and a toddler - not so much for travelling but for home - we're always short on space here but bending into the bath isn't very practical for me... I have always struggled doing it when I've had to wash my hair in the bath for any reason so not sure I wouldn't struggle if I had to lean in and wash the baby in there...would rather get something for the purpose...
right so... at least 4 fitted sheetsadded to shopping list along muslins

Baby sleeping bag are great. They don't wake up because they have kicked their covers off as the covers are attatched. You know they will stay in the recommended position, under the arms.
Always read the instructions carefully though.Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
While we're talking sleeping babies, can I ask what the experienced mums think of swaddling blankets? I've seen some with velcro so you get them fastened in the right place.. Any experiences? What do you think?
Thanks!
