Ok so far i've been successful in making flapjacks and banana cake / chocolate cake etc made in a cake tin.
However my last attempt at cupcakes in cake cases was a major disaster, im really not sure what went wrong with them they stuck to the paper and it wouldn't come off and i ended up binning the lot because eating them involved eating paper blah!! i think the mixture was to runny and it soaked into the paper.
Anyway as the flapjack that i put in DS2's lunchbox came home uneaten im thinking of trying fairycakes. Apparently the flapjack was to nutty and he doesn't like nutts....funny cause he wolfed down the banana and walnut loaf i made tonight.:o
Anyway me and ds1 think he's the one that nutts the flapjacks where lovely but hey... anyway anyone got a foolproof fairy cake recipe i can use for fussy son's lunch box??0 -

help - stupid question!:o
Was given silicon baking gear for Christmas & due to a sudden craving will be making fairy cakes this week. Do I need to line the cases with paper cases, even though the fairy cake moulds have 'fluted' edges?"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
Nope - the beauty of silicone is that you dont need to line it - but you do need to let it cool down before you try and turn out your cakes0

Do I need to grease the silicone beofe putting the mixture in though?"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

was going to make victoria sponge. Would like to put creamy stuff in middle with jam. Now i do have philly so can i use that? Sorry if thats silly, im trying to avoid spends. I also have icing sugar, various sugars, lemno juice, jam, lemon curd (hm) etc.
its for best friend birthday. ALso could i make it on Thursday and take it with me on the friday and it would be ok? TIA :j
i was thinking of a carrot cake style topping used as filling with jam? Yes? no?
Also, lol, my round cake case is too big i think so i was going to make it in a loaf tin if that doesnt sound silly? Do you think i could write on it with jam and a tiny paint brush lol. or am i better using the big one and doing a bigger much thinner one?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Hello, oh surprise to see i posted on this last lol.
I am planning on making fairy cakes today. My 2 eggs weigh 160g, and i only have 140g of butter. Trying to be MSE and all, im trying to avoid going to the shop. Would i be better to use 20g of flora light or just to downscale my other ingredients and add *most* of the egg and 140g of flour and sugar, or just go with the slightly less amount of butter? Thanks in advance. I've missed this place.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

if your cakes rise too much in the middle, your oven is too hot, turn the heat down a little to cook them more slowly.
Also, if you can't be doing with all that faffing about creaming, put the lot in a bowl(make sure your fat is soft) and mix until ready.
Some say.....that this does not give quite as good a texture as the faff method, but hey, the speed the kids eat them, who cares!
AND.... if you want a giggle, google Fairy cakes ,Chelsea, and see how much they are willing to pay for them down in the smoke!!!:rotfl::rotfl:0
