Hi, My mom is unwell and is bed bound and has been for the last 2 weeks, she has now asked me to move back home with her for a short while untill she gets back on her feet, We are hoping this will be within a month or two. I currently rent a council property and wondered if I would need to tell them if I was planning on staying away for that length of time? your replies will be very much appreciated...Many Thanks

As long as you have an intention to return you should be ok, how long are you talking about a few weeks or months, the problem is that you still have to pay rent if you are claiming Housing Benefit they can only pay for 13 weeks of absence after which the payments will stop so it is important that you return if only for a day or so every few weeks if it is likely to be for more than a few weeks.0

Hopefully it would be around 1-2 months, if my mom hasnt got any better by then I would seriously concider moving back full time anyway. Thanks for the advice, so should I tell my housing officer of my intentions do you think?0

You may also need to inform your insurance company as I believe they may need to know if you are leaving the place empty for more than one month. Check your policy. It may be you need to sleep there a couple of times a month to keep it valid.0

i guess it depends where you live? i cant imagine anywhere half busy having either the budget or the manpower to become someones personal security guard.
the only places police supply alarms are normally domestic violence victims and they are panic alarms rather than burglar alarms.
if they do as you say they do, i would hate to guess how much council tax you must be paying?what is the plural of moose?

They don't do that here but you'd hate to guess how much council tax I'm paying anyway.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

i just moved house and im now on band 'd', a bit of a jump, my last house was band 'a', i have gone from £78 per month to £153 per month. ooof.
to OP, cant your mother move in with you or if you are both council tennants, cant they find something suitable for the both of you ? they save money by taking back 2 places and giving one out, you and your mother benefit from having somewhere large enough and suitable for her and you.
i know not many people would go and live with their parents again, i wouldnt touch mine with a sh1tty stick.what is the plural of moose?

Def tell the council. Get it in writing and get a receipt for the letter. Discuss it by phone too - but make sure they confirm it in writing. The last thing you need is them 7 day lettering you thinking you've abandoned your place.0
