  • What an utter disaster today has been!! I did my first and last NCT sale today.... They shoved me out into the hallway on my own, most people just walked straight past my table or kept asking me where the ladies loos were!! I didn't sell a bean!! Not one brochure or leaflet was taken, not one ounce of interest was shown!
So I'm now £25 down! All the table top sales I do, I at least break even, or get some interest! This has been the worst so far.
At least I've learnt one thing, not to waste my time or money at an NCT sale.

    Hi Earthengirl,

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Must agree that they way overcharged you for being out in the hallway. I've been both sides of the coin - one of the manic mums trying to bag bargains and overspending so no money for cards, and also a phoenix trader with lovely table set up (yup also in the foyer) who took in £8. The organisers here said to me they wanted 10% of my sales, but even they had the decency to turn down 80p.

I also decided to become a trader cos of the lady who had a Phoenix stall set up at the nct sale (i was probably her best customer of the day).

I hadn't done an NCT sale before but another trader before and did ok. But think she did a fundraiser for them previously and put an advert in their montly newsletter including a supplement brochure so got sales from a few members. Don't know if they charged for the advert? Surely it couldn't be much, after all one of the mums usually does them. maybe ask and re-negotiate the table fee.

Deffo speak to the organiser even to get some of your fee back.

    Good luck,

I am considering taking on another business opportunity in addition to Phoenix.

There are a lot of PT's in my area so it is difficult to book a stall at School Fair's etc. So I am thinking that if a PT is already booked, then I could have a stall selling something else on those occasion's.

I do wish to continue with Phoenix and build up the business, so I need to find something which complements what I am already doing.

I have seen the information on FM perfumes, although I am not sure that selling perfumes etc. is for me. I am waiting to receive an information pack from Silverline. Any other suggestions?
:) Thank you to all OPs :)
  • Hi all
Not posted for a while - too much going on with my full time job so April has been a bit of a write off for my PT stuff. Except I now have my first sponsor under my belt :D

Did a wedding trade fair at the weekend, not allowed to sell anything though so just giving out brochures and raising my profile. No orders as yet though, but did get a few leads for sponsoring. Also, just done a 50-brochure drop yesterday. I'd prepared 100 brochures but I'd only bought 50 bags!! Going to pick them up tomorrow, not holding out much hope but you never know!

Here's to a prosperous May for everyone!

PS Skeeter, hope you find another venture soon, isnt Usborne books s'posed to be quite good?
Trying to earn some extra cash, just in case :undecided
  • DWW, I've done brochure drops which have resulted in nothing more than lost brochures, but I also got my biggest order so far from the same method, so it's not all bad.

Well done on the sponsoring, was she a customer already?

:) Thank you to all OPs :)
  • The new products are on the website too. I love the racing car and the superheroes card, they'll sell really well to my customers.

  • Great I'm going to take a look now!
  • I'm drooling over those new products and can't wait to get my hands on them. I agree about the racing car one - I think that will be a best seller as it appeals to so many age groups!

    I WANT TO ORDER NOW!!

I am so glad I logged in tonight. It's almost ridiculous how excited I have become at the prospect of more cards to buy. I have become a spendaholic since I joined Phoenix. I meant to start up small and low cost but I have spent so much, as I can't resist. I feel another order coming on.
Good news is I have sold £40 worth from posting 20 brochures into houses. £17 from taking a basket full to baby group. Plus a £34 order from a friend's mum who wanted a catalogue. So not a bad week.
I am really starting to enjoy this now.
