Yes it can be cancelled straight away and your mum can start paying BT for it again.;)0 -

"Yes it can be cancelled straight away and your mum can start paying BT for it again"
....... ah....... but currently she isn't getting it anyway.....do you need to be already getting it to qualify?** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Hi all
Did any one else notice, a few months ago, that BT introduced a penalty charge for not making chargeable calls? FREE caller ID becomes chargeable if you don't make (3?) chargeable calls...
Anyone else won against this? Simply calling someone 3 times and hanging up maybe....
This will probably affect those who use another provider for their calls, but BT for the line rental....
Anyone else anything to say about this? Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0 -
Do not have to be chargeable calls, they can be inclusive calls.
This is old news anyway. When BT introduced BT Privacy they said it was only free to those who made calls through BT. Seems like you did not read the terms of the deal.
If you don't make calls through BT you have to pay the cost of their Caller Display service.0 -
Why should they be free if you don't use the service? And if you don't make regular calls what use is caller ID or the answering service?0

Interestingly, caller ID is not much use if you make lots of calls and never receive any.... think about it! My out-going calls go through a different provider so it is still useful when I receive calls....
@ ACDeag "Seems like you did not read the terms of the deal." And? Is this site for consumer revenge for screwing them back if possible or company defence? I was asking, if you read my post, for a way round this charge - not for someone to tell me "tough, they're a company - pay it and shut up"..... have you spent much time on this site?!
Surely the loophole that might exist here is making calls worth 15p and saving the £1.71 charge?
@ ACDeag "Do not have to be chargeable calls, they can be inclusive calls." Does it seem like you have not read the terms of the deal?
"Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month, other wise BT reserves the right to charge £1.71 a month for BT Caller Display. Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £5.14 a quarter."

Back to the original post, and back to the spirit of this site maybe, has anyone won against this? By making 2 short chargeable calls (by dialling the route-calls-through-bt override code)? Do inclusive calls count, despite the fact their website says they have to be "chargeable"?
Thanks in advance for helpful responses! Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0 -
There are countless numbers of people who override and leech stuff from BT. You've mentioned how to do it yourself.
And this site is not just about greedy, selfish people saving money - it is also about fairer deals. What you want is money in your pocket taken from the pockets of other customers. It is not the directors or shareholders who pay.
Yes, it would be fairer if there was no Caller ID for free. They could go back to charging everyone 75p per month for it. That would be fair. But I suspect you would still whinge about that.0 -
Just pay the 20p/month it will cost you. It is not worth discussing.0

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Yes, the fact that 'inclusive calls' also count was tracked down elsewhere on BT's convoluted website some time ago - see HERE.
Thank you very much! The article on your signature is very interesting too.
Thanks again
