Look this isn't Martin's fault - they had no reason to believe it would be an email harvesting scheme (and we have no evidence to prove this yet either).

It was a free offer and we should all stop blaming MSE!

    oh great (!) Thanks Jo!

By any chance did you ask them if it's a competition draw or first come first served?

Also, if we enter ourselves again after 10-15mins...it's just going to say we've been entered into the draw already  this sucks!

    GOOD NEWS

They clearly stated to me this IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVED and not a draw.. I think you also get entered into a draw to win something.. anyway, EVERYONE that enters, regardless of of being first 2000 or not gets a free membership for a MONTH anyway, so win win everyone!

This is hilarious! No doubt TL have somewhat changed their T&Cs since the advertisement but fwiw, i've been a member for the past year and have easily recouped the cost of the card.

Best restaurants I've tried in London have been 'The Chancery' and 'The Almeida' - both excellent food and a great deal at 50%.

Also, although several 'recommend a friend' for a £10 M&S voucher have failed, I was pleased to see they replaced my card free of charge (and promptly) when my wallet was stolen.

The whole thing is a good idea - and with restaurants suffering, their range is constantly expanding. If it proves to be a success, no doubt they'll upgrade their systems efficiency. In the meantime, one can't help feeling this particular promotion has done them as much harm as good...

    Good luck all!

Of course there is another angle on all this.

The basis for the 'delay' was the 18 hours it takes to get the weekly email delivered. However, I still have not recieved my weekly yet and only by chance did I read the publication online off the main page...

So how many MSE's out there have still not been able to even log in as they are unaware owing to the additional dely in the delivery of the email?

I'm not blaming MSE I just think this is crazy! How can they suddenly decide all those that got the congratulations thing really didn't? Doesn't make any sense. Not Martin's fault just a sad reality of this offer. Glad I used a fake telephone number now!

  • If they send me any marketing junk, I will throw the Data Protection Act and E-Privacy Directives at them.
If they then refuse I will sue them in the county court to the tune of €500 for each email sent, (which I think is the agreed European Rate).

Shame on you MSE, getting us to sign up for an Email/Telephone harvesting scam.

I wouldn't worry about junk mail, if I'm not mistaken you now have to "Opt In" for marketing, not "Opt Out" so they know that they'd be breaking the law using your information for marketing purposes themselves or selling it onto any third parties.

However, it might be handy if MSE clarified what the deal is with this offer and that we have not all be conned into giving over our details (just in case)
