I know my goldfish haven't and they've been in the tank for months now... :p

  • If you're not scared of spiders, encourage some to live in your house; there are lots of spiders in our house and very few silverfish or any other insect.

  • I was feeling quite benevolent towards the ones in my loo- but after seeing the picture of it magnified I think I may get rid of them!
I do find they disappear under the skirting between the loo and bathroom, but I don't have them anywhere else. they also go after a good floor bleaching for a while. I just assumed they were like spiders you got a few indoors now and again.
  • _pale_ hmmmmm this has got me worried now as I found a few the other day when I pulled out my baking tins from the bottom of my kitchen storecupboard

It's an old built-in larder cupboard (which will eventually be demolished at some point to make room for my fridge/freezer) and I never spotted any insect life while cleaning it when we moved in a few weeks ago so was quite surprised to find them the other day. There were only about 4 or 5 of them sitting in my loaf tin, and none in any of the other tins, so I don't know how many more could be lurking in there or whether they might get into the food _pale_

Most stuff in that cupboard is in tins, jars, storage containers etc but I do have bags of flour, pasta and rice etc in there too. Do they climb up walls in search of food? The tins were sitting on the floor under the shelves in there, rather than actually on a shelf

yuk we get these in our kitchen, you see the odd one every now and then. I don't like them but I just tend to squish one when I see it. We live in an old terraced house and our next door neighbours house is about 8ft above ours so our kitchen is a bit damp and I'm sure theres alsorts of beasties hiding in between the walls... :o

I might shove some cloves here and there to deter them...my main problem is slugs yuk yuk yuk gross bleergh yuk...its making my back go all funny just thinking about the countless times I've stood on one in bare feet!! yuk!! Still thats a lot better since we fitted our new kitchen although there are gapping holes on the outside near the wm/dw pipes might as well have a welcome sign above the holes you'd think the builders would have sealed them up. Might get DH to sort that out the next time hes at home for the weekend.

I had these when I moved in here as the house was really damp. I gave the walls a good old wipe down with bleach in hot water and that got rid of most of them. I still get the odd one so I give it another wipe down every 3 months or so and it's gradually getting less.

  • In the past when I've had problames with silverfish I've just sprayed around the walls/skirtings/carpet edges and bookshelves with an insecticide and put moth balls/camphor in with books and clothes in storage as silver fish don't like these things.
