Would you pay for the child's coat?

My daughter has an ollily coat - bought from TK Maxx at 70% below retail, and even then it's her "best" coat and not for playing in. Same with my son, he has "expensive" stuff but its not for the school playground! Kids at school, especially boys, generally are going to tearing around, playing football, rugby, games etc, surely not the best place to be swanning about in designer gear.
Accidents happen and kids have no liability (under the law that is). I'd either tell her to have a go at repairing it herself or direct her to ASDA, they do very nice basic coats there. I think its a bit cheeky of her to ask for money for something that was an accident, next week her son could step on some kid's £120 pair of armani glasses, would she pay for that?0 -

No TKmax 15 years ago, just Panache.
I still think to pay for a repair is reasonable (I personally wouldn't have asked, but this mother has).0 -

I think its more the fact the she is complaining to the school/parents that it has got ripped and wants them to pay for it. We are all entitled to pay what we want for our childrens clothes but is it reasonable to then complain when they get torn in the playground on the grounds that it was expensive?0 -
Okay, pay £55 for a coat, but don't expect other people who wouldn't dream of spending that amount for a coat in the first place to stump up when it gets ruined in rough play.0

Totally agree with you.
I couldn't care less if someones coat cost 50p or £150
However I do not think it is reasonable to complain and demand money from other parents if the expensive coat gets damaged.
Personally I wouldn't give her a penny.

Dragging someone by a hoop isn't an accident though is it.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250

 You send your kids too school and I imagine they are priceless! I can see it would be silly to express concern about grazed knees and bruises in rough play, (which I'd equate with torn stitching or dropped cuffs in a coat) but I imagine many parents would be concerned if their child got 'broken' lets say missing adult teeth? this could equate to a bad rip in a coat.
I'm not for a second trying to say a coat is as precious as a child, just saying that all parents let precious things go to school and would hope they are respoected and cared for by other pupils!:o0 -

Sorry rose-marie, sort of repeated your post, in a roundabout way!0 -

i dont understand why no one else is seeing it like nicolefury.
first boy has the hoop
2 boys want said hoop
first boy wont give them it
first boy trips
2 boys drag him along ground
jacket gets ripped.
i do not see where the game is ?? how was dragging someone along the ground when they did not get what they wanted an accident??0 -
I read it as the two boys had the hoop first and the other boy took it and they wanted it back?
Littleoldme doesn't remember playing at that age?0
