I took my slicer back to Argos today, I didn't find it very good at all. In fact it made a bit of a mess of the Donner Meat from the Takeaway secret.

So I'll stick with a knife and maybe my magimix to slice meat thinly from now on.

Is anyone else petrified of using the slicer?

I have all the components on the floor but am nervous of using it!!!

I got a whoopsied stuffed pork loin yesterday and also a frozen stuffed boneless chicken joint - both went in the oven last night and once cooled a bit I 'tightly' wrapped them in foil (several layers) to keep their form and they are waiting in the fridge for me to get over the fear of my half price slicer :rotfl::rotfl:

I will try to work out the cost later compared to buying precooked sliced stuff ;)

I have just cooked a gammon joint in the slow cooker so I will cool it and have a go. I assembled mine yesterday to have a look and it does look a bit scary - you first Frugal

All done.... Well all the chicken done and half the pork.

I did the pork first and was really disappointed as after each slice, I had to stop the machine to move the meat back to its original position. It just wasn't smooth and was really annoying. After half the joint I gave up.

Next I did the chicken... Much much better. It mostly sliced neatly and did move back and forth on the guide without having to switch off machine.

All in all, I am slighly disappointed :(

I have got 1.2k of fab quality sandwich meat for around £8. But I could have carved it myself tbh.

I checked on MrT website and a similar type and quality cooked and sliced meat would be around £22-£26 per kilo so its a very good saving.

Oh boy - now I'm worried - mine doesn't seem to slide back and forward smoothly either. Meat should be cool enough in abt half an hour

It worked well with the chicken tho.... just not good with the pork.

Anyway, let us know how you get on - what meat are you slicing?

Well it went quite well, after the first couple of slides it was quite smooth. I did have to stop it a few times to move the meat from the back where it came out as it was clogging up the blade. It did do a good job of the meat though. I am not sure how money saving it was as DD and myself kept eating the gammon (cooked with orange, ginger, cloves and maple syrup).
It was a bit of a fuss to clean the main unit though as I seemed to have collected a lot of crumbs in between places - not sure if I am missing something that should come apart or not.
All in all, I am quite pleased with it and think it was well worth the money.
