I just got some dried blood out of DS's football top very successfully by rubbing in neat stardrops and then washing - stain has completely gone.
  • From my school days i seem to remember that if it is your blood, the best way to get rid of it was to spit on it - apparently the enzyms in the spit break down the blood (only your own though).

Has worked for me in the past on my football kit.

You don't usually need to soak in cold water if it's fresh - the important thing is not to put hot water on it, as you'll cook the blood (same for anything protein-based such as egg, or, um, you know, that stuff on Monica L's dress). Just rubbing with a biological washing liquid/powder (the enzymes again) under some cold water usually does the trick. If it's dried, Stardrops seems to work a treat, especially on cotton.

If its a white cotton sheet I wash at 90 degrees which gets it out even if its already been washed

  • Here is a tip for removing blood from fabric. It even works on dried on blood, I used this method yesterday to remove blood from an old top which had been on there for 3 years!

    1. Fill a bowl or sink with a small amount of warm water, just enough to cover the item of clothing with.

    2. Add a large amount of salt to the water, as much as will disolve.

    3. Soak the item for a few hours, if the fabric is tough and can take it use a small brush (such as an old toothbrush) to give it s scrub.

    4. If the stain is particulaly stubborn, leave it to soak overnight.

    5. Wrinse is fresh water and the item should be stain free!

Nice to see a local person on the boards too!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

If you only have a speck of blood on something, try spitting on it.
  • Not a good start to the morning. My four year old slapped my two year old so hard this morning she had a nose bleed!!! She did hit him first but still! Kids!!

She was sat on the sofa, which I think had a stain repellant on it when bought about 4 years or so ago, but doesn't do much of a job now. I was busy sorting out and cleaning up the little one so by the time I could start on the sofa the blood was drying in well and wouldn't just wipe off.

I've dampened it all with a wet cloth and I think the top layer of blood has probably come off ok. Its drying from that now but I can still see lovely little red blobs. What do I do now? (covers are not removable btw, only the cushions are, which although they only got a little of it are in the washing machine)

Someone please help me, this morning started off stressful enough as you can imagine. Thank god four year old is now at school

I would mix up some cold water and salt and smear onto the stains. Let it soak in fr a while and then rub off.

    Hope your LO is okay.
