Alright.... I will come and have a play.. :).can you hang on a couple of weeks?

I think accepting the stick is useful. Not just for its own right but because it teaches her to trust you and also to learn throwing a paddy is not the answer. Treats are good....but.....you have to make her work harder each time. Following for a treat is good, but if she accepts that its time to persevere with the hand on her, because otherwise she is training you to give her a treat, jot you training her to work for it. Excellent prep for her tjough. You are so instinctive!

Edit: i will bring my own lungerein and stuff, but use your cavesson..i am a but weird about knowing the weight of my own stuff...though its so long since i worked one of them doubt it matters much lol...She won't get onto a circle first time i handle her, but i always work with lunge or long reins. Safer.

You've probably tried this, alfie, but, if you can get her by herself (so the others don't join in the fun) go out with a bit of carrot & sit in her patch. Don't take any particular notice of her. Eventually nosiness gets the better of them & they come up. Then give her the carrot & go. Try this each day & normally they end up coming to you as they expect a treat. It can take a lot of patience, though, & is easier to do when it's not freezing bl**dy cold or soaking wet. :rotfl:

Edit: :rotfl: - Done it again, haven't I?
OK so I obviously teach mine bad habits but it usually gets them to come. :D

Yep. And they approach when you have your back to them. I often find pulling at grass makes them think i have found. Abit they have missed and should scoot me off too. My way of catching my lot when they aren't that keen is to go out, walk a circle by the gate, pick some grass till they have looked up, then walk in,.....they usually trot or canter over to see what they have missed, rofl. But getting a headcollar on something resistant is a pita. I used to have a pony in to show for other people that i used to take me three or four days to catch sometimes. I hated it because it made catching her for big shows a drama, or , if i caught her the day before she was hyper by the showing day :(. She really was in her heart wild.

    :D They're all nosey so-n-so's at heart.
Oh yea, getting the collar on is a whole different battle. It's the flick of the head like a haughty teenager that's the swine. Sometimes I think they do it just to say "I could be off now if I wanted to, you know ....... but OK, I'll let you think you're the boss if it makes you happy" ;)

since we had the corral built last year any "events" take place there. ie the minis for the farrier, the sheep for shearing and ruby for her treat. i seperate ruby in the adjoining strip to watch the farrier. she actually sulks cos shes seperated BUT i then go to her and give her her treat for being good .:) its a bit like musical chairs but it seems to be helping. when i do the walk/treat she is again on her own. NO mini interference !!:D

LIR... i would LOOOOOVE it if you could visit and help [friend "L"actually asked me to ask you but i didnt like to ........thought you had enough to do !!] BUT it will only be on the proviso that we pay for your time.....ok deep breaths LIR :rotfl:
we were willing to pay a stranger so THATS THE DEAL ... [pretend its for fuel ;) ]
ive waited a year so a few weeks is nothing...:rotfl:

Guess what I will be doing this weekend!

Just remember, I haven't planted all my seeds, and I have tons of frost free space, unless we have a sudden really cold snap. :naughty:

In fact, I haven't even received some seeds yet. ;)

Looking forward to trying the Premier seeds. They were really cheap. Thanks to rhiwfield for that one. :)
