Oh crikey.....is all that stuff in already? I will try and get top the pound shops tomorrow then!

Popped into Lidl on way back from car boot (still wearing thermals tonight!) and noticed the seed racks in already.

Things, and words and meanings change or become unacceptable, in among the piano scores and G&S operas was a Daily Express community song book including "negro spirituals". Used to live near Robertsons jam works in Manchester, remember the Golly? Hot water discharge kept the canal warm and tropical fish thrived there until the works closed. Will word that song book carefully when list on Ebay. Wonderful old books in lot, anybody remember The Monkey's Paw, mostly blank stares at the car boot :(

Rhiwfield, i have a robinsons golly. I have a few gollies, i prefer knitted ones. I by no means consider my self racist nor have them to view people in a derogatory way, they sit with a couple of rag dolls, a toy fox dressed up in hunting pink, and a pink teddy on a tiny sofa on the landing, which we call politically incorrect corner. I do not have many toys left from when i was liottle, and didn't have huge numbers then...by parents didn't approve of toys and stuff people grew out of, so my gollies are cherished.

    We have SNOW

Alf, its a 1902 illustrated W W Jacobs first edition " The Lady of the Barge" which includes The Monkey's Paw. Good condition too. I'll send you a photo tomorrow if you like. Love the hand cut pages and gothic illustrations!

Couldnt agree with you more. Except for snow which I hope falls south and north :D
  • I remember collecting jam jar labels for Robinson golly badges, brooches & things. That must have been in the late 50s or early 60s I'd guess.

No snow just here & obviously it's too dark to see the hills inland but, from looking at the BBC travel, it's causing lots of problems less than 10 miles west of here.
  • only a light dusting of snow on the mountains around us:o but about a mile up the road there is the 'snow line' basically they can have loads of snow and we have ziltch:rotfl: it is literly like a line one side snow, step over and theres nothing....

so just cold grey and damp here......

sold a few scarves on ebay last night, went for starting price..... so now that i know they do sell, think i will try and sell them on a regular basis, they are sooooooooooooo easy and quick to list..

Alfie got your pm, i will pm you later
