    Anyone wanna guess the Castle?

It's one of the smaller ones. I'm going to say Laugharne. :)

I KNEW you'd know, Dave :D Carmarthen is so grey compared to North Pembrokeshire. No wonder Dylan Thomas was so dour.

The the size and estuarine location gave it away a bit. ;)

I quite like a bit of Dylan, myself. Not too much in one go, mind. :)

Just check the caravan chassis if it's okay it'll tow as long as the tyres are okay - even if they're not - someone would pay you for it & then it's their problem getting shut of it. Thought you needed one tolive in - tere you go one ready to move into.

Rummer - delete a few more emails......

    Gosh it's cold.

Funny day today - Little teddy a Buff Orp whose either going to a new home or t'oven got into the sheep field & I went in to stagger about trying to catch him. The black hebredians decided they'd join in the fun & chased the poor wee cockerel up the field - I couldn't stop laughing - must of looked drunk, all that staggering about too.

It is freezing here after some heavy snow so the whole world has turned into a giant sheet of ice

As well as my asparagus I also got my lavender hedge and a few sneaky packets of seeds too from T&M since they were reduced and postage was free :)

Tyres? Haha. I wish it had wheels, Choille. Or even an axel, or a floor :)

We're in transition at the moment but I've bought a few packets of 39p seeds from Aldi so we have some fresh herbs and lettuce. I think those and Alex's tomatoes will be our lot until the builders have gone.

A plan is starting to take shape now. The architect is instructed, his assistant is meeting us at theh house on Saturday monring and he'll measure up and do a site survey for the sketch plans.

We need to spend the weekend compiling a "Wish List" for the house and externals. Does anyone have any advice about what we might want to apply for planning permission for? We#'ve never lived in the chountry before so don't have much idea about any differences in country living yet. We're going to apply for everything, although we won't be able to afford to build it all straight away.

I was thinking internally, we definately need a boot room where we come in and take our muddy/wet gear off and get washed up perhaps. Also, externally, I'd like a covered barbeque/eating area, a polytunnel, a large workshop/gargage. Any other thoughts, anyone, please?

Urgh. The sun is out, even if the grass is wet, and i have put off working outside for what feels like ages. I suppose i better go and do some work today.
  • What you need to do, rozee, is think well ahead as if your whole place was already finished & how well it functions.

I'm not sure exactly what your final idea is (taking visitors, keeping animals, amount of "growing" etc. & which will be your priorities) so it's hard to give specific advice.
You're already starting to think that way in terms of the boot room. Country = mud = somewhere to leave all the grot so it doesn't get dragged into your nice, clean home :D
So the boot room needs to be equipped & in the right place to enable this.
My advice would be to go through the same thinking for all the things you ultimately want to achieve & then double check that none of them cause problems with each other.
Make a complete wish list & mentally picture where everything will be when everywhere is finished even if that's years ahead.

If you have a plan which caters for future uses as well as immediate ones then there's less likelihood of having to make large changes as you go along.

It's a bit like planning the perfect kitchen (making sure that surfaces, cooking, sink are well placed) but on a grand scale.:)
