It's a sort of Easter Panto then, daahling.:rotfl:
why do i have this mental image of Margo from the good life:rotfl:
really damp and merky here....
with all this mild weather my chicken/duck run is like a swamp..
at the moment they are all in one big shed, I have 4 others with inner sleeping area and then a covered run, only one of them is being used by the cochins, so 3 of the others are now being used for storeage of 'bits'
These are empty as we didnt breed anything last year, ( used to use them for growing on older chicks etc)
so think i will at least try and one of them out on the weekend ( isnt enough hours in the day at mo)
so once all done at least it will only be the ducks outside in the swamp..
Hubby thinks there is going to be alot of germs and diseases around this year, due to the fact its been soooooooooooooooooooooooo mild...
do you think this will have an affect on the fruit and veg growing this year?Work to live= not live to work0 -
The weather this winter will only have a negative effect if things take a turn for the worse when it's flowering time, or if buds break and we get some serious freezing. No sign of that at the moment, but we have a proper frost here today for the first time.
Our land has dried out quite a bit. My trial foundation holes by the house are now empty, but they were 3' deep in water a couple of weeks ago.
The Panto rehearsal here on Wednesday wasn't like that, alfie. We have some very talented people in the village and everyone knows who they are, so they get the best parts. That's fair enough. What I like is that teenagers are involved too, so it's not just a load of us oldies hamming it up.
I've produced and filmed many drama productions for kids, and even written a few things, but that's very different from acting. I find it much easier on the outside looking in!0 -
evening all..
so glad CHOILLE ,that youve been to doctors and hope you are soon on the mend ...:D
now just got to hear LIR is on the mend and feeling a tad better ???:D
ive had a long day and my joints belong to someone else me finks !!:)
poor old barney is so thin i am very worried, hes eating well, plenty of grass and hay so must just be his age....trouble is where he is so old ,i question having investigations done....:( dont think theres a "cure" so will just have to keep an eye on him...
LIR....CAN YOU SUGGEST A GOOD ALREADY MIXED FEED THAT I COULD GET HIM THATS MAYBE BETTER THAN WHAT HES GOT NOW ??....
im just off to ANOTHER panto meeting..:( one of those things i cant get "into" this year ...:o too many weird old bats there that think they are spielburg !!:rotfl: VERY DEMANDING !!
sees you later....well read you later...:D
Well...what is he on now?
I'm a big fan of top spec for simplicity, it's not cheap, the balancer is about £35 a bag, but you don't need a lot of it, and you top up with a conditioning 'mix'. This year I'm using a diff feed balancer though, called Pure, and ...it's cheaper, and its suiting special girl brilliantly. Might even have to bring her out of retirement. I still think the higher protein grass pellets in the field (soaked) are good for oldies.0 -
Weather: yes, re bugs......one of the horses here has had shocking infection in his feet. Winter is usually a boon for us, improving horses feet, killing any infection and thrush....special girl as a tendency to get thrush in her feet if she is below par and many horses run thrushes feet, the cold weather, snow especially, is much better for it.
I also nodded with Dave's post.
Anyone seen a long range forecast?0 -

They're talking about tempertures in early February being around normal and the most settled weather in the south east. No sign of anything major, either way, but the devil is always in the detail.
....And they could also be wrong! :rotfl:0 -
Glad you've got a diagnosis, Choille. Hoping to go and buy the raspberry canes this weekend. A beautiful day today, wishing I had a plod (horse) to go and mooch about on.

My neighbours have offered me use of theirs, I just wish I could take advantage of such a great offer. He is not my sort of horse at all, but he is a game and cheerful chap.0 -
Bright & sunny but colder here today.
We often have snow on the moor at Easter so I think it's too early to discount a really cold snap yet.
Yes, Dave, there will probably be problems with all the things which have flowered early, particularly anything which needs pollination. They're out before the bees are.
Foot problems are a nuisance, aren't they,LIR? Luckily we have the hills which drain well but occasionally get problems around the gates where the ponies paunch when they come to drink etc. It's more of a wet summer problem for us as the paddock they're in during the summer is flatter.
Your hub may be right about the pests, CTC, if we don't get a really cold snap. If nothing else the slugs & snails must be turning somersaults of joy0 -

well, yes. Luckily I have an almost resident foot expert. Also, I nit pick. Our feet are ok, apart from the one horse, but I dislike what many consider normal levels on infection, because it's not normal....0 -
We were rather surprised this morning to see two ring necked parakeets on our bird feeder! :j They're perched in a sunny spot on the silver birch in next door but one's garden. I did think I saw a green parrot last year, but nobody believed me of course!
I know they're naturalized down South, but never thought to see them here in Liverpool. I wonder if they've escaped from someone's aviary.
