We're currently debating whether we are putting undue pressure on ourselves to find an architect and submit a planning application so that we've done as much work as possible before we have to move out of our rental accommodation by May, or whether we should instead go down the static route and live on site from May onwards.

We didin't want to waste money on a static but it looks like we can pick one up for not too much and then we could live in it from May. Hopefully, the build won't take too much longer... I wouldn't want to spend a Winter in a caravan with 3 small children....

Does any of you have any advice on buying a secondhand static and the logistics of siting it etc. I understand that we can have one to live in for a year if we are doing building work. I'm not sure about the legalities planning wise.
Will need to check that with our architectural adviser...

You can have a static anywhere while you're doing work which requires you to move out, but I thought you'd found out that Ceredigion & Pembrokeshire allow one static on site anyway? If not, then I tend to side with choille and I'd get one there in as out of the way a position as possible and cross fingers! Depends on the neighbours, I suppose, but with the build coming up you have a great excuse. Retrospective permission if necessary. :):o

In the longer term, a static could make money for you as a holiday let, perhaps in the northerly triangular bit where you could get a second entrance off the drive and thus sustain your own privacy. I am jumping the gun here, but I may as well throw ideas around....ideas are free! ;)

I don't think you have any chance of getting the build all sorted by May. There's always hold ups and 'slippage' on these things and, as the others say, it pays to really know a place before you set to work on it. I'd move in, live with what's there for a bit, get plans in place and a builder/date sorted for next year and then move out at the allotted time so they can bash on with it with no excuses or hold-ups. It's tempting to say could they do the downstairs while you live upstairs & vice-versa, but in reality these things rarely work like that!

This year, I'd look at how you'll store the stuff you have in the house & see if that could be related to outbuilding needs in future. e.g. site office or something like that secondhand. ;)

Lir, hope you are feeling better today and that it all goes well at docs, choille.

Seems like I have a viral infection in my ear. It's a nusiance as I'm not doing owt, but as it's now really cold & hailing down don't feel too guilty slouching about & watching day time telly.

Did rather want to go over East tomorrow & view an auction but that would be naughty & totally wrong in so many ways.

Hope you feel better LIR & thanks everyone for your good wishes.

Well a viral infection's not a lot of fun choille, but at least it's not Meniere's disease, which is what I was wondering without saying.

I had a colleague go down with that & it was very sad for her. :(

I am on tax and related activities again today. Takes ages, but we could be more organised. :o I'm not sure we will ever open the business again, officially at any rate.....it would cost you good, honest, hard-working taxpayers too much! :rotfl:

Low cloud sat over us all day today so I escaped to the hairdressers.
The cloud was still sitting there waiting for me when I got back 5 hours later :rotfl:

Hope the infection clears up soon, choille.
It's meant to be turning colder over the next few days so a bit of enforced holiday has probably come at the right time for staying indoors & keeping warm.
