They take a very long time to reach the size of the one I was talking about, and the tree clearly pre-dated the housing estate.

A good parkland tree, I'd say, but anything 60'- 70' high with a canopy covering most of a garden is going to be hard to live with. :(

    Life gets back to normal.

Stock made from turkey carcase last night is now being used for pea and ham soup, soaked 3 packets of leo's overnight and just added fried cooking bacon, smells heavenly when mixed with the smell of bread baking in the breadmaker :)

DW started bagging and labelling the table and bed linen for sale, and listed a few other odds and ends on Ebay last night.

Still eating apples in storage but quality is mixed, too many small apples because I didnt thin enough. And onions havent stored well after being attacked by rust :(

we finished our excellent beef last night, with a yummy stilton sauce. (I'm not mad about stilton but like it in moderation). DH is saying we don't have enough leftovers:rotfl:. because I didn't over cater. I prefer it this way.
  • A grey & nothingy sort of day here roday.
There's a sort of a "morning after the night before" feeling to the day which isn't due to alcohol - I've not had one drink over Christmas as we had company who don't drink.

I think it will take me a couple of days to catch up on lost sleep, though.

Company was a bit of a culture shock as, for many years now, we've spent Christmas like Darby & Joan - doing our own thing without all the must-have seasonal pressures & having a lazy, indulgent time instead.
Suddenly we had to rediscover the art of making sure people ate on time, had everything they needed etc. & reintroduce ourselves to the feeling that Christmas is a holiday spent mainly in the kitchen :rotfl:

All leftovers will be put to good use :D & there seems to be enough choccy to see me through well into the New Year :j
We always stay up to toast the NY in. We venture outside the front door & yell Happy New Year but there's never another light visible let alone a living soul about apart from us ....... but it probably entertains the sheep :rotfl:
