you should join us in the Houseprice forum
Very few of us who were contributing to that forum go there now, except to the 'Nice People' enclave, of course. It's like a sanctuary in a War zone.
Houses in the village have been sticking, unless priced well. I even heard one excellent builder is 'quiet.' As in Wales, we've been subject to a steady influx of Boomer Hordes from the east and it's all been "Lovely, m'dear".....until now.
No, I don't count!I be local, born & bred (....almost.

evening everyone.
today was my mums 80th birthdayand it was great as she had an old fashioned tea party. some of her oldest friends came [80-93yr olds!] came along. my sister made home made scones/jam/cream , sandwiches,S rolls etc... i cant believe the fun in these old gals !!:rotfl: mum and they all lived in the same road [where i was born] so all of thier "kids" played together. it was strange seeing those kids as wellgrown grownups !! [they came to pick up thier mums later on]. faces i havnt seen for approx 30years !! as per usual everyone claimed "you havnt changed a bit".....:D knowing that we are scrutinising them to see what HAS changed,,,,, on average it was the waistline and gentle contouring of the face...:rotfl:
i DO hope everyone who is near to finishing thier houses/finding a house has lots of luck.
son has moved outmass evacuation of his bedroom last night with the lad hes gonna be sharing with. i stood there and said "can i paint this room now?" ....son turned on a sixpence and said "what color? i dont want it made into a posh room! i like it like this!!":rotfl::rotfl:

A widowed farmer's daughter I once courted lives not so far away. Although we've not met in 40 years, we've exchanged photos. Mine was from 2006,and looking at the camera data, hers was from 2007.
We haven't changed a bit, in looks or behaviour.:cool:
I think it's only Kaz & Maggie who are near the finish line with houses. Most of us are still at the Carpenter's stage:

You may think your son has moved out, but this guy has a message from him regarding that:

hurrah, some good news: dh has been told he can come back to london oin a few weeks, so we'll be back to normal. Phew. TBH, I'm really relieved. He's been having a ghastly time and has been very close to walking out. soon he'll be back to coming home friday nights, and going back monday mornings having done stuff here in the mean time.
How best to get through loads of tarmac on the cheap to make a planting trench? I've just found out that the road is going to be surface in January and it would be much neater if we could get our front hedge in before then.0 -
Check whether the Council or any contractors sell scalpings - the tarmac they collect off the top of roads when they refurbish. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

oh, thats a point, yes they do, I know that and we need tidying up too. But actually we HAVE tarmac and pressed stone and I want to dig a trench in it to plant a hedge!0 -

Good news about your DH.
It really depends how long this hedge is and whether it's one row of plants or two. For ours, a man with a mini digger did our 82' double trench in 30 minutes.
You could always ring digger men and ask if they want a little earner to fit in on their way home from another job, when convenient. That way, you might only need to pay them for a couple of hours, max.0 -
:eek::eek:Rant Alert!:eek::eek:
I saw this amazingly silly thing in a Smallholder's magazine today, so I thought I'd share it with you:
Yup, it's a cover for your chicken coop and a snip at £190.
So, first of all, you go on the Interweb and order one of those flimsy Chinese chicken houses for about £120.
Next, having assembled said chicken house, you put it out in some weather and it begins to warp a bit. This is OK until there is a real storm, after which you find the coop has leaked and the bedding's all wet.:(
Never mind though. Remember, for only £190 you can protect your coop with a special cover.:)
So, for a total outlay of around £300, you now have a rubbishy coop and the pleasure of grovelling about on the floor to reach it, unless of course you're a gnome. If you are, maybe your gnomish children could also use it as a slide....
Finally, you are automatically entered into the Lottery of Fate because there's absolutely no way of knowing when the coop cover will take off, where it will land, or what damage it will do en-route when you next have a Force 9. Check your insurance policy.
So much fun, eh? :j
On a more serious note, we've found that even our expensive-from-a-well-known-maker small coop leaks at the join between the nest box and the main body, or it did until I fixed a bit of DPC over it. I'm so glad the main housing is a shed with internal boxes and nothing tacked-on.0 -

I haven't measured it....shorter than the two sets of double gates we'll put in later I expect....maybe.....12 metres? 15 perhaps?
I think a single row would be fine....its not for privacy but as a boundary demarkation but might put a stock fence behind for animals for once the gates are in. It will be set back from the road front, and we plan to put a verge in the bit between hedge and road, to stop parking and pulling over....maybe planted with wildflowers, maybe with a couple of staddlestones to emphasise the ''private property'' aspect.
security is becoming more of a pressing issue.0 -
