As you're expanding your allotment area I guess you're already growing stuff for own consumption. Are you planning on growing stuff for sale, or for own use/full self sufficiency?0 -
Aren't there any summer lets that would welcome your family for the next 6 months, rozee? I suppose many will have the odd bookings, especially around Christmas time. We used to hire a 5* one in Oct/Nov, and with free ch, it was silly money for a week away.
There's a plus side, we are so exposed (on a corner of the main road) and we're out so much because we feel so confined that we know practically everyone in the area now! No problems integrating0 -
Well.....I'm still here under my pile of twigs,...and I know its a poile of twigs because another hedgehog just walked in.
In fact, I was sitting on the sofa writing tomorrows list when a flea hopped onto me I looked up and a wee prickly critter was strolling across the sitting room floor, happy as larry.
I've weighed him and he's only 200 grams. I'll phone a hedge hog expert tomorrow to get some advice but he's now in a box with a plate of expensive cat food making rustly noises.0 -

That's a lot to fill up!
I'm disappointed with my parsnips this year, but I've only dug a few so far. Last year they were fine, but I grew a shorter variety, so maybe some disappointments can be down to choices of seed. Patty Pan summer squashes have done poorly this year too, but maybe that's because we didn't have a summer!
I like things that stand into winter, so leeks feature strongly in my plot. I think I'd also put in some perennial stuff, like asparagus, and maybe Jerusalem artichokes too, if they agreed with me! Globe atichokes are pretty and fill up space, but again, I'm not that keen.
Don't forget a bed for herbs.
My major disappointment is always that stuff goes over before I can eat it. Top of that grumble would be lettuce and radishes, but I also have problems here with parsley and land cress, which bolt because the soil dries out quickly.0 -
Hi All,
Hi Old Tractor... love the name, why does old overalls and bailing twine spring to mind:rotfl:
Very windy here last night, even thought the temps have dropped since the very warm weather i am still finding it warm...
I have had a roller-coaster of a week..but hopefully over the next few weeks it will all be sorted, so then i will be able to tell you what has been going on ...
LIR.... lol about the old hedgehogs..... wonder if this will happen every year? maybe this is your calling.... a hedgehog home....youwill just have to make sure you dont go round with nothing on your feed...as you never know what you might step on...:A:rotfl:
Just wondering is it late winter the best time to plant apple trees?Work to live= not live to work0 -

I will second the "brisk breeze!"
We knew this was coming, so we've worked like mad the last two days, tensioning up and battening down the loose poly around the sides of the new tunnel. The woodwork's now in place and it just remains for the sliding doors to go on to finish that bit. However, on one corner where the land falls away steeply, there's still a huge gap which I'll need to fill with a bit of concrete walling. We can't just throw more soil at it or we'll part-bury the damson tree.
When our digger man's free, we'll get him to bring back more soil for the inside.
Then the arguments will begin:
"This is my side!"
"What do you mean, you want an end, not a side?"
"A peach tree, in here?" :rotfl:0 -
It really looks, smells and feels like autumn this morning, I almost had to put a jumper on, not quite thoughFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
