I suppose it would be best if you could find someone with one working and go along for a look.
done that, they reckon they feed theirs by necessity twice a day, but usuualy three times a day. Its a Scandinavian thing, with a distribution/maintainence contractor point not too far away. That's part of whats holding us up with the other thing: the methane capture thing: that there is no maintainance people in the area, the ones we've researched and think are viable are mainly in Kentucky:o0 -

welcome!
My apples aren't good this year. They weren't last year either, and infact may be they are less diseased than last year. I can't wait to give the two I'm keeping another good prune this winter.the third has proven its not worth keeping, so it can prepare to be firewood.
As a matter of interest how many of which varities of fruit do others here have?0 -

I have 4 apples, 2 plums, 2 pears, plus lots of soft fruit, although I have been relying on the Joan J raspberries and the loganberry mostly the last couple of years.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Y'know, I always quite liked geese until I joined this thread!
We're still house hunting and there are a few new properties come to the market, but very little with land. As you guys have pointed out and now we're here and see the reality, some of our criteria drafted from the armchair internet browsing, are actually mutually exclusive in real life!
Plus you have pointed out the drawbacks (nay!) of owning land. We have come across a few downsizers, maybe only ten or fifteen years older than we are, who are starting to find their acreage or grounds hard work and are looking for somewhere less burdensome. And we've also made friends with a few locals who are "living the dream" but "the dream" is actually bloody hard work
If we don't find something at the right price in the next few months, I think we'll turn our search to finding a more appropriate rental property for the next six months or we may go slightly loony with 5 of us in a small starter home. There may lay the next challenge - decent rental property where we want to live is also pretty scarce!!!0 -

Monday morning and all seems back to normal, apart from the slight leftover from the overdose of wine yesterday
I managed to find time to harvest the squash this weekend, not a particularly good year tbh, about 14 from 6 plants.
I have a problem with rats eating my tomatoes, never had this before, I've caught two in the last week and I think I need to catch more. Horrible things, but better they are gone.0 -
PS. although bimbles good,i did lose my amazing clematis when he dived so hard at the rat sat at the bottom of said plant,[which has a broken clay pot to protect the base,]that he snapped clean in half ,the sturdy stem.....
