Ok CTC (and Alfie & LIR and anyone else!), lets take minds away from feeling unwell or being depressed by the weather and tell me what you can about these items bought today.

    1/4 doilie in frame
    2/4 doilie in frame
    3/4 doilie in frame
    4/4 doilie in frame
Macrame, applique, embroidery, lace?? What do I call it and can you give any idea of date?

No real idea but the edging would be typical of Victorian through to about 1920's.

Have some similiar that my mother got in farm sales in the fifties or inherited from "aunties" at about the same time.

But using plain fabric, not the vignettes.

I tell you what I'm after atm.....those crocheted things with beads around the edge for sugar bowls? I want a load of them but for big bowls and a table cloth the same. I don't mind sewing beads on.

Well done on the plums all.

We've had pretty awful weather for ages - really wet & nasty.

Sorry to hear of your troubles CTC - good you're getting tests done.
If you get any good tips for dealing with stress let's know as I could do with some of them.

well the 1st two look a bit dutch and the 2nd two english/french but im assuming if you got them together then they COULD be british. they look like souvenier doillies.at a guess [cos i tend to "feel" the crochet work, the lighter/finer the work is usually pure fine cotton or silk] i would say post war but the paintings could have been done after the doillies were made..at best 1920-1945 ish.[a lot of pics like this was of the 20/30s look] the last crochet work looks like it is either off a dress [cant tell what size it is]or it could have been similar to a sampler to show the work that was available....difficult to age that and again this is only my opinion with me screwing up my eyes to see them :rotfl:. either way...I LIKE EM!! if you are going to sell them can i show pics to a good friend as i think she would love them ??

Alfie, I will be selling them, bought them at auction today and have to make money back (rules of our game!), and have listed two other items on ebay already. The four doilies are all in one frame and I would have guessed edwardian, but cant be sure. I'd guess the flower is more modern, its approx 14" by 7". Anyhow, by all means show pics to your friend and I'll be glad to send hi res images, pm me with e-mail link if thats what you'd like. BTW, did you notice that the guys got in first with responses, shows we're well in touch with our feminine sides :D

well iv had a strange day !
firstly i went to see my "old lady" this morning and was met by a rather dazed old lady sat in her chair [i let myself in]...i knew straight away something was wrong and i suspected a stroke. as she is SO fiercly indipendant i had to work this one right without panicking/upsetting her. she was "lights on but nobody in" stage so i snuck to the loo and rang her son. i then called an ambulance [999]. 1st lady i spoke to.....great. 2nd lady was asking a 1000 questions to which poor old lady was giving me obscure answers bless her. so i halted that and insisted that at least a mobile paramedic was summoned as no2 didnt want to send an ambulance...over an hour later, son had arrived, paramedic arrived, called ambulance and off she went...i had to PROMISE to look after her cat, hide her purse and make sure she came home... i hope i can fulfill ALL three for her. she's such a fiesty grand lady and it was so sad to see her so scared.
ive been back to put lights on ,check the cat etc. she is being kept in tonight and will hear more tomorow...

LIR.. this is "friends" MIL so its all happening in thier family at the mo !!

anyway my bargain, whilst getting feed at scats i noticed the last wax jacket on the sale rail.it was £180 reduced to £81 ? bargain i thought so i jokingly asked if it was going to be reduced again as it was the last one ?? yeh ! i got it for £40.50......:D:D:D

right...i have a question...which one of you waaaaaay back [havnt energy to back track posts] said that they wanted to try and grow veg next year and that it was new to them ???? reason/ i have got 2 brilliant NEW[same] books of veg etc growing that are easy to follow, not too complicated at an exceedingly good price ;) and i will happily pass them on for free as i in my "del boy" tradition like to get a bargain ....:D
if anyone else can remember who it was incase they are not "on" as often as us saddo's:)

I don't post as often as "you saddos" but it wasn't me :rotfl:

I still read every day but, as usual, work gets in the way of my real life. :( I'm in that awkward position of needing to spend more time dedicated to my business, but haven't got the orders to drop my "proper job" to 3 days a week. I currently do a nine-day fortnight and asked to drop the other Wednesday and do a 4 day week, but it was refused. I was offered a three day week but that's not viable at the moment.

But, I have made a step towards this house being my daydream house. I bought a solid fuel Rayburn on Eb*y yesterday!! Just need to get a big truck and some burly chaps then we can go and collect it. Luckily it's only 16 miles away, so not far to go. Can't wait to get up on a winter morning to ready cooked porridge......

  • rhiwfield... i feel the macrame one could be 1960's/70's as there was a huge surge in this craft then.but i dont think it is macrame is it something called tatting?

the doillies ...i would have a stab at around the 1900's..i would have a stab at saying between 1920 and 1920's dont know how much you will get for them , as they have got age spots, will be have an effect on the price...

on your listing title i would say late victorian early edwardian with a question mark ofter this, ( to show you are not to sure on the exact date)

I dont know how much you paid for them....but i do hope you make some money off them....
