Is she sure that's what he has? Sounds a bit drastic to me!0 -
Pretty hot here again.
Yesterday I scived off to Inverness on the bus as it was so midgied here I couldn't handle it!
Tomorrow off down the country on family visit & also to deliver some chickens I've sold - the first - which is rather worrying as I've flooded the place with ads - Scot ads & the locals. Am abit infested with them.
ish I had more money to keep the joiners here forever as they are doing so well in such difficult conditions - it's going really, really well - yip-yip-horrah!0 -
choille
When does the roof get water-tight?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
It's getting there but I/we can't afford the sheeting until we get some more cash in. The boards & paper are almost there & we'll need to board the rest of the winda spaces as we can't afford any more windas at the mo!
One of the big windas upstairs will be over £500.0 -
Questi0on for alfie or anyone else who has kept geese!
Would they use a floating style duck house if the door was big enough?
We'd like to let them have the Cake to swim in, but don't want to risk fox attack, we found a house that floats and they said they'd make the doors bigger for the geese. I'm worried the geese would find it hard to get onto the platform though. Its 8 feet square inside, which seems ample for our three and a couple more if we get another mate for the other girl ...they only sleep in it and wouldn't have to have closed doors because they'd be safe in the middle of the cake!
But they would really like to sleep outdoors, they are often settling in the grass for the night when I go out for them, and obediantly go in, but I think they'd prefer a more ''self service'' solution!
So, would it work? Or would they try and sleep on a bank waiting to be attacked?0 -
We finally have a few potatos worth harvesting. Hurrah. And peas
The toms really are awful and those not effected are flowering but not fruiting, I've never had to polinate toms. Peppers, one fruiting, the others flowering, and aubergines, two fruiting the others...well they LOOK healthy plants!

Bucketing it down atm! Not the weather for dreamers putting up roofs, digging foundations or erecting polytunnels.
Went to a general auction yesterday, packed and high prices. Managed to get just one lot which will be mostly ebayed/car booted. So as I'd got rid of my other horse for a small profit this is the Beswick replacement
Was going to bid on 1 lot which had an interesting cast bronze with letters JACO(Q?) VESSEKKEHEETMYGHEGOTENAO1676, which I think is Dutch for Jaco(q?) Vessekke is my name cast AD 1676. Outbid though
Did find a 30g silver poodle in the lot though, as well as some modern but nice wildlife studies by Border Fine Arts and Country Artists so should make a reasonable profit.
Teapot saga 3, another curator unable to identify, nothing similar seen, but thats 3 curators saying 1930s. Only hope now is V&A.
After toying with the idea of ASHPs last year (on hold atm) starting to explore passive heating (solar air or even trombe walls) using our southish facing gable end for heat collection. Oh for a new build rather than a retrofit!0 -
Did nearly 500 miles yesterday. Mum isn't great but happy - totally away with the fairies. It's a hard journey but did deliver 3 Scot's Greys to a rather famous jeweller - what a house. I wish I could have had the cheek to take pics.
The chickens were ever so good all the way down the A9 & it kinda took the focus off the main purpose which was o do the family stuff.
Woman coming this afternoon to see chickens - so at least things are picking up that way as had such little response it's been a worry.
Rhiwfield - a lot of so called eco solutions are not eco & aren't really solutions - just middle class uilt salves - be shot dwn for saying so but that's part of what we do.
You can't beat insulation - floors, walls, roof space. - Tromptian( sp) walls are good - paint it black! Holes on wall & floor to allow it to circulate & heat behind the glass lined black wall. Don't use double glazed!
Funny being down back in the middle belt - the cars, the people - the houses - felt so busy & hemmed in. Really hot, hot day with a haze - still 21oc at 10pm coing home.
Good to be back to the wilds!0 -

Ah, but it will be dry by lunchtime, and we drain quickly, so there's a chance I can still get the last 4 struts on it by dusk. Or I can make a door in the conservatory.
Your auction hunts always sound so interesting. When I go to a sale it's just a load of junk...:o
As I've said before, I remember teapots using those spouts (which people also fitted to taps) in the 1960s, though that doesn't date them.
Spent yesterday cutting as much grass as I could. (Rain didn't arrive till midnight)......Did a lot, but it's never enough!0
