.....by going to have a 'mooch' at these types of properties they stop me from getting carried away with my 'ideal' type of property dream....lol..
do you know of any good sweet flavoured strawberry varieties?
I expect the builder/speculator will hang on to the derelict house & land until conditions improve, then go for a nice eco house to sway the planners on floor area.
Few people get their ideal property, but if I had to pick one at the moment, it would be this As a house it's not huge, but it's the location and the grounds which are exceptional. We did a walk through there in 2009 and it's lovely. Instead, ours is more like this! (We know what no internal photos means, but it looks good value for somewhere with land in these parts.)
Can't help on the strawberry recommendations, as we only have inherited ones here. Sorry.0 -
That house and the land with it looks amazing!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Well, the point is that house & garden are largely done, there's a framework, and that can just be tweaked, whereas what we have here is five years hard labour...and it'll cost more!
But no way is that a smallholding, which is why people need to work out what it is they want,. Once you are into larger animals the type of property required changes a lot.
I could be happy with a wee bit more than an acre. Depends on what the acre is, of course. Some properties look fantastic till you consider the practicalities. For example, I saw a decent house with a 2.5 acre walled garden for restoration in the Forest of Dean recently. Sounds idyllic and not out of the way price-wise at an asking figure of £320k. Then it suddenly hit me; what would be the likely maintenance bills on the walls, which are surely listed? They could be colossal! No wonder the Manor is selling it.0 -

I suppose it really depends on the state of it and the quality of the bricks/build to start with. Could be a cost of almost anything to sort it out.
Mind you, selling for restoration, doesn't mean that the wall has to be restoredFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

No but a fair old stretch of it borders the high street, and if it's listed, the council can force repairs, or in extremis, get them done and send the owner the bill.
I'll see if I can find it.....Here it is, judge for yourself:

The wall doesn't look that bad from streetview, but that doesn't mean anything. Stone though too, which makes it cheaper for materials..... though not for labour
What an amazing place!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
We went to the most amazing restaurant last night. Truly outstanding. Outstanding price too of course, but what a treat. As we drove home the lightening had started, but no rain, then as we climbed into bed a wind picked up. We left the curtains and window , to listen to the rain, but it didn't break til this morning, and though it was impressive it wasn't enduring and the wind has picked up to dry up everything again. but its grey and damp still so maybe we'll have more this morning. Big village shindig his afternoon we're hoping to get to.....rain will make that easier because limited what we can do here.0

I wish we would have some rain
we had what seemed like quite alot last Monday, but yesterday I've literally got thing dying from lack of water. And these aren't newly planted things either. Mulching helps alot, in fact the 4 litre milk plastic bottles filled with water, have not only done great as a small windbreak and heat store, round the cucurbits, but as an extra help, have also been a great mulch round them, keeping the roots nicely damp. Very worth it.

thats a lovely place in Talley Davesnave.....could quite happily put my feet up and have a cuppa in that kitchen, while hubby is 'pottering' around in the veg patch, :rotfl:edit...... the only thing is there is neighbours....( hahaha we could soon lower the tone...lol...)
as you say, it all depends on what you want to do with the land/house.... In all honesty something like the one in talley would be great... growing veg, a few sheep, and chickens, poss a few pigs to fatten up...( ok that would be the idea, but prob they would be there a life time...lol...) BUT in reality...... no wongas... spondoolies ..or even the a snifeta of that type of money.....If i wanted to move to a place like that i would have to save an extra 9.3k a month... on top of our living expenses now...or basically £2'147.43p a week. some how i dont think i could earn that type of money every week lol....might be able to do the 43p a week at the mo:D seriously though did put £1750. in my Isa this week:beer:
At the moment i just want anywhere that has no neighbours, no supermarkets planned to built near by and somewhere where we can live where no one is moaning and groaning at how we live....and anyway the house i posted is not far from like home from home for use....lol... as our house is a ramshackle now..... as i will not spend a penny on it....in the begining we couldnt afford to, now, its in neg equity now, and it will prob be even worse when the supermarket is built...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Just come back from having a 'mooch' at THAT farm.... and the owners son ( in his 50's) was walking down the lane, so he showed us round hte house... flip i am in love.....it had that 'home' sort of feeling the minute i stepped in the house..... yes it needs work, it needs stripping back to the stomework, and re- plastering etc...
now i feel like crying:o as i know we havent got, and cant get the money to buy it.....I would even sell my range rover....:rotfl: but i dont think that will be enough:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0
