yes, I did! Sorry for not acknowledging....I have watched them twice now :) Cuties! (including patient lab!)

well......its been a day. I feel more assured having looked in the trenches that the house is savable. At some point its been partially underpinned...probably aggravating the movement between ''bits'' as the unpinned bits could ''waggle'' I guess. The ground, though clay is good. Parts of it have really really impressively deep topsoil, mush more than I'd expect. Pleasant surprise!

The oak tree is a problem. Architect understands we want it and is trying to save it but structural engineer advises it should go. I feel that its pointless delaying the inevitable...it just prolongs the mourning period.

Anyone know any one who could be commissioned to do something nice with the wood? No idea what. :(

New bonus water saving plan, our run off is going to go to a separate water store, be used as grey water for cisterns etc before going back to the sewage treatment centre. Three use water cycles! Let it drought! Looks like we'll have two boilers to deal with the complicated diferent systems of heating etc. worth noting for eco builders with more than one source of heating: you'll need a BIG boiler cupboard!

Because I am an oddball I am a bit wary of schemes where my oddities might make me, or others uncomfortable.:o:o though love the idea of most community schemes.

Oh you do make me laugh :rotfl:you are not odd at all!

The thought of community living to such a degree fills me with mild horror  . I do like community spirit and working with people on certain things but I would find it very stressful having to make decisions about my life with lots of other people all the time.

More rain here today, in fact I am beginning to think that it is never going to stop.:(.

Lotus-eater I am so sorry to hear that your road to recovery is not as smooth as you would hope. Maybe be worth getting a second opinion?

CTC you are such an inspiration, I am slowly getting to grips with our finances (when life doesn't get in the way :rotfl:) and I often hear your words in my mind when I am going to spend money on things I do not need!

Dave fingers crossed you and your DW perk up soon. Both of you have worked so hard and it is lovely reading about your successes and following your plans and ideas.

Alfie - sorry to hear of your cat's eye. Our fat cat scratched his a while back but with anti-biotics & constant attention managed to save it - vet was brilliant.

The midges are back with avengence. Midgy machine started after its Winter hibernation. Past few years it's cost us £200 getting it serviced which is an expensive joke. I threatened to get rid of it if it wouldn't start so it must have heard me. Hen still unedr tree sat on a clutch of eggs - can't hear any cheeping - so nothing yet...mmmmmmmmmmm. Eggs in cooker due in next couple of days - just musing if chook under tree is sitting on duff aggs we may be able to pass cooker eggs off on her?????????? Save using this second heat element thing I bought off ebay with proceeds from my sales.
Builder that OH does drawings for has started to cultivate a croft & garden so I have a home for all cuttings & spare seedlings that were becoming a pest to keep watered - so that's good.
Raining again - we need it.
Hope all who have been ill speedy recovery but don't overdo it as it can knock you back.

LIR, how big is it? We have a lovely bowl made by a wood turner who got a few trees that came down in the Phoenix Park in storms years ago and turned them all into large bowls. We got it as a wedding present and love it.

But if it's a decent size, could it be sawn into planks and made into cupboards, table, chairs etc? They would be real heirloom pieces then.

I am getting on well with our au-pair, so considering dropping 2 afternoons a week, and maybe even 3, from creche for afterschool care for DD. Definitely dropping the fortnightly cleaners too. (I sound so posh for this group, but really its about time and if I want any family time, growing time and scraping some crafting time, given the amount of work we both do in the office, it's a necessity for sanity for OH and I). We got her as OH is away for a month, but both of us are looking at overseas working so needed to get used to the options. Dropping the cleaners pays half her wages, dropping the extra afternoons would cover most of the rest, but for me, having the comfort that I can still leave at sparrow-fart in the morning is priceless (so that I can get home for any chance of family time in the evenings). OH does the mornings when here generally, so losing that was going to impact hugely on the wage-slave aspect of life.

I have got the bills paid off again though, so back to putting the extra aside into the DCF, and the Christmas/everyday rainyday fund. As CTC says, it is a long term dream (so the overseas working will all feed into that too, as the wage slave). And learning as much as possible in the meantime, and feeding the family as much fresh fruit and veg as is practical in our current circumstances.

Sorry Alfie, yes had your P'M what a patient lab you have:rotfl:so cute

I honestly dont know where the time is going this week, its flying by, and only just over a week to the smallholders show:eek: flip i am soooooooooooooo un-prepapred...lol..

Dull and overcast here, quite cold too,

I think its a good idea to make something out of the oak tree,

I am sure there must be some 'proper' wood workers near you, who could make you something, depending on the size of the oak, maybe a table top, table, a rustic looking chair/bench, carved out of the trunk with a chainsaw...

I'd love a cleaner. If and when we get B and Bs I will most certanly get help. One of my godmothers house is often full of B and B people (she also runs art courses at her home so its not uncommon to go there and see a couple of dozen people having breakfast who you have never met before) and has always employed local school and college teens. she has a battery of them it seems one does the lawn, one does weeding, one irons, one comes in every day and makes beds, another helps her with washing up etc etc. Its always chaos at her place but she's rather grand and I think likes having more ''staff'' than you can shake a stick at, and she is very vivacious and loves young people. They all seem to adore her too, and a nicer working environment if you can giggle about the dear old mad bat with other young people I guess!

the tree is not very big....its maybe half mature height and not terribly stout. It might make a big bowl. :)

I was wondering, with the chainsaw carving. aybe they can make it into a sort of unicorn horn obelisk. to put back out there where it should be.

I need to walk too. Today I didn't even poopick. When we talked about what's possible with illness etc I think I mentioned priorities...priorities atm is feeding animals and meeting clients needs....atm walking across the field isn;t.:o:D

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to the field. Even i I can only do half this week, its better than letting it build up when it becomes a half day job at the weekend.
What happened to the poo picker/sucker, you were thinking about acquiring?
