Ouch! First of all a big ((((hug)))) to CTC for all the hassle you've had lately. I hope the van is sorted quickly and that your thief is made to understand the consequences of their actions, though being the village idiot, that might be difficult. Anyway, I really hope there was something for you to take comfort from in the meeting last night by way of compensation.
It seems many here are having health problems too ATM: rhiwfield and alfie with their backs, lir, choille and Poo with other less specific aches & pains and maggie & lotus being recently recovered from something nasty. It can only get better folks, and the chances are it will, now the kinder weather is with us. The next problem is knowing when to stop, as the long evenings are certainly catching us out and turning our days into marathons.....
Yes, great wild area rhiwfield, but that's what our tidy bit looks like on a good day! :rotfl:There are times when I long for the orderliness of our old garden, but the nursery part was never very tidy, so I can do chaos too. I think it's hitting home to us just how long it will take to get this place really tamed. We have conversations like:
"We could put that acer in over there and get it established instead of sitting in a pot."
"But what good would that do? The levels are all wrong."
"Oh... yeah...But we could maybe pick it up with the digger and replant it when we do the levels?"
"Pfftt!"
But one small step was made yesterday; we finally got one selling bay surrounded with the impossible to handle windbreak netting, and it's tidy. That stuff will last for ten years or more, so although it'll take about two full days to do the rest, looked at in that way, it's not so bad.
Edit: I have a flower on one of my toms!0 -
Winged one, I think choille and RAS, would be the ones to ask about growing stuff as far north as Inverness. That's north all right!
Reading people's weather reports has made me understand, in a way I never really did before, how vastly different people's gardening experiences are in the UK. Some of you have complained about the huge amounts of rain, for example, but here, the rivers are in a sad state for the second year in a row.
Our biggest problem here is wind, which is odd, because we're only 145m above sea level and that's not extreme, especially in Devon. Just the other day, while down in Crediton, and later, in a valley on the edge of Dartmoor, it was noticeable how much quieter things were wind-wise, compared with at home. And I always swore I'd find a sheltered site....:o0 -
thanks all, the villiage twonk was one of the village smack heads too, all i can say is good job the van was full, as he nicked a few of hubby's speakers, a few guitars, and a few box full of nic-nac type things from work, and all the loose change in the petty cash..
The van is 3rd part fire and theft, so as it has been recovered, we have got to pay for the damage to the van, and the factory door, and when he convicted, then put a claim in for the money, which is a total joke:rotfl:
This type of thing happened to us before, with a 'smack head' doing our previous business over a few times....
and it didnt get any better at the meeting either:cool: i sort of lost the plot, and took all my days frustrations out on one of the developers... I lost the arguement the minute i start...( the guy is the one that took all the pics of our chickens etc and is pushing for us to get off the land )
basically the only thing we can go for is for them to upgrade our dirt track road ( which they own) and sufficient screaning between us and the development to keep our quality of life...
Rhiewfield, i am not as healthy as i should be.... high blood pressure, over weight and got to go and see a muff doctor as i have 'womens problems' , but as you say LIR its all come and once so hopefully nothing else can go wrong....
Hubby and i have even looked at one of these

Will anyone have any surplus veggie plants this year i could buy off them? I really do need to distract myself now away from all the poo around me and just lose myself in the garden.
Thanks for listening to me off-loading on here about my troubles...

LIR - What are cattle fly tags? Not heard of them before. I find Spot On keeps flies off & if they get bad then a smear of Sudocreme does help.
.
Cattle fly tags.....similar thing, but in an impregnated ear tag as opposed to a spot on...designed to fit between/behind number tag on cattle ears.(I used to plait them in to manes or fasten them on cheap leather headcollars.)
Sheep are FAR harder work than horses.:D0 -

Agree about the tea.:)
I don't think posting plants to you would be such a great idea, especially the most useful ones, like toms, which wouldn't travel well, but I'm up for posting you some seeds if you want to send me your full addy - you know my email!;) You still have plenty of time for most stuff. I only planted some toms on Wednesday, knowing people will still be looking for them when I've sold the first lot.
As for the supermarket stuff, I'd treat that like we had to treat having a very elderly dependant, who was holding up what we're doing now without realising it. It's a waiting game, and distracting yourself with plants and other stuff is a great strategy. Asda won't take as long as we had to wait to build their supermarket (hopefully!), and after you get a bit of landscaping out of them, then will be the time to decide whether to move on, or not.
Just read the MSE news to the right about Spotify. Guess who joined it last week. They must be onto me!0 -

Hi CTC - Know how stressed you must feel & how easy it is to lose the plot - I did it twice last week on two people's answer machines!
Some people are just wind up merchants & I actually gave them the reaction they wanted. Ho Hum.
Hope you do get a bit of respite soon & manage to get good screening in place.
Failed to catch the other two sheep, but they managed to jump the hurdle fence - should have enterd them in the National - bleeding Shetlands.................Did ear tag one before it did the high jump & wormed & flucked so at least that's something. Jiggered before doing owt else. Caravan like a slum - funny how you see it when someone rolls up as just happened earlier. I am ashamed, but as it's nice out that's where I'll be heading after a coffee.0 -
