Urgh, the end of another weekend.
At last, after what, nine months? Ten months? I have my little chicken house erected. Its on the side lawn near the house so I can run electircs out to it for a lamp for the babies for a gradual transition to grown up chicken life.
The sheep arrived. Its a bit of a giggle actually. The owner is a young chap, not that sure what he's doing, and did blush a lot when I asked if it wouldn't have been easier to put the temp fencing nearer the water, or at least the gate....as he had nothing to tow the sheep over the rough field in and had to carry them over one by one.Cute enough, they settled as they hit the grass. No stress, just delight at good grass.
Now, a bit of tidying up for the structural engineer coming tomorrow.....0 -
I have planted something in the new raised bed :j:beer::T
Only a few broad bean and pea plants but this project has been so long in reaching this stage it's a huge step for me. It's one of those planning steps that are needed for the future, as I'm not getting any younger or fitter and wanted something that would enable me to sit and garden when I needed to.
At present the soil level is much lower than I'd like, but this will increase as I add compost and some soil from a heap that needs moving (it's topsoil from another part of the garden).
Also did some work on the small flower beds at the front of the house and mended the very low dry stone walls and cleared the gunk from around the base of the wall so it's now tidy. Worn out and with backache but a great sense of satisfaction. I can now see my Paeonia mlokosewitschii which is still going great guns after 20 years. It was a present from my aunt and uncle when the ex and I moved in. My garden is a host of memories from plants put in by my late parents to the Camellia commemorating my late border collie.
I love living reminders of people and pets - make my garden a very personal thing.0 -
evening all... have just read through and you all seem mega busy this weekend !!...:) i have not got want i wanted done !!:(
my hip has been causing havoc and driving me [and all around me!!] nuts....so i went to A&E today, BF took me , they x rayed me but no fractures.inflamation of the joint ?? iv been told i hav to rest up/take it easier for 4-6 wks
BF looked at me then the nurse and just said "no chance" to which i got a lecture from nurse that i would be in serious trouble if i didnt .....:o
I HATE BEING OUT OF ACTION.....
i will take it easier but am not grinding to a halt !!
i have taken in a few orphans this week and so im "doing" mum duties which is fun....me im like a pig in s**t when im mummying !!:)
i havnt a lot of news as iv done nowt !:(
i too saw a hen run full pelt across the garden this morning [let them out later than normally] she was like a formula 1 driver, hairing round bends and then diving into undergrowth by the shed...:rotfl: i found where the little blighter's been laying !! about 8 eggs in there:) she was so miffed id "sprung" her.....:rotfl:

Pet, when we ound her, had seventy seven eggs in t hayloft! Whizz is laying on top of th hay stack round the back by the Defender. DH took 22 (notice howmine lay in interesting numbers...77,22)
Yesterday I fond another 8 which had dropped down between the bales...two bales deep....there were eight.
Chasing tail again this morning...but coffee and a quick read here is a morning necessity.
Alfie, please be careful: six weeks now could save you six years of enforced rest later. Its a lesson none of us here are good at, but we must try and improve!
Right off for a hoover sprint before people get here....oh and some lippy on....I'm turning into a real farmer...hand cream and lippy are things of the past most days0 -
Sorry to hear about your hip Alfie..... maybe if you just go at a slower pace, and ash for help with the heavier things..

so 2 lovely long weekends.... ( bet it will rain...lol...)Work to live= not live to work0 -
We spent the weekend dealing with a fractious child and sorting OH for his overseas travels (he's off for a month in the near future, to the other hemisphere!). So we didn't get to the plot (it's in reeasonable shape and we're planning on a half day there over Easter), but we pottered in the back garden where we shared the first radish and are both having our own salad leaves in our lunches today!
I am also sorting paperwork these days, to get the finances back on track. Which seems to be working. And making sure that I have all the records where we can find them (not scattered across 3 different places in the house, and no order to them either!).
The heat and the recent rain have meant that everything is starting to shoot upwards now, which is great. And MIL is getting her chickens this week, so we'll see them when we;re down for Easter!
Thanks RAS and everyone for your advice - I have popped a few seeds into the post and have a list of suggestions for Sis beside the phone.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

well the sun has shone again today :T
my son came with me today to sort out a friends garden... my friend has his own company and works all the hours sent ! he has a fab cottage but he is no gardener... he has french relatives coming for easter so he hinted and i said OK
my lad had to fight his way through the grass out the back, had to use hefty petrol strimmer 1st then tried to mow it....it was not flat !!:( i used the shears to clear the path so you didnt take an eye out on the overhanging greenery ! i discovered a brand new mower in the garage ....2 years it has been there...the receipt stuck on the box was evidencemy friend [we were neighbours for 16 yrs] is useless.... brilliant at his business but otherwise useless !!:rotfl: he's like a brother to me and i "use" his house [if you can kidnap a house, then i do!] to accomodate 4/6 people for the auto jumble, have done for 20 years now...all friends now, from holland and france. im sure he says yes so he gets his house/garden cleaned/sorted twice a year... my cousin stays there when she comes over from canada too. if anyone likes art then google ...anna marie ferguson... im biased but her work is amazing.
anyway im bored already "taking it easy":p but as LIR said, better 6wks than 6yrs !!
my "babies " are doing well and im totally in love with them !!
seems like we have so many holiday days im totally confused what is for what ????
i have a lot of work b4 may12th to get the model railway ready for the 4 day event.. the owner is away for the next 3/4 weeks [hes doing some "walk" with his son somewhere in cornwall part of the time?] BUT the good news is that im not having to operate the trains at the event :T hes getting 2 "enthusiasts" to help... is so bl**dy complicated to me, all the points and trying to NOT crash !!
anyway hope iv not bored you too much :rotfl:0 -
Sorry to hear of your hip problems alfie - hope you can ease off a bit.
We've had it hot today - gadding about but got some stuff done here.
One of my Scot's Greys is sitting on a pyramid of eggs under a tree! Still not sure about the eggs in the incubator - not sure what I'm looking at when shining a bright light at them. Just a few days left in the cooker for them.
Heard the first cuckoo today & loads of bats out this evening.0 -
anyway hope iv not bored you too much :rotfl:
I don't think there's anything about your life that's even slightly boring, alfie! You never seem to have two days the same. Take it s-t-e-a-d-y!
Not much to report here. It is far too dry, and yesterday was windy too, but the grass is growing. Pete came up and had a look at the fields, said the grass was a bit long for sheep now (well, he was the one who put fertilizer on it!) so it was agreed we'd use them for hay or silage first.
I don't mind, as at least I don't have to watch and make sure hay isn't on its back with its legs in the air. That isn't a joke really, because one of Pete's ewes lost its eyes to magpies in that situation this past week.
I'm off to somewhere interesting today.;) Well, hopefully it will be.0 -

Its one of the most dreadful things to find IMO...so laden with horror connotations. And flystrike. YUK.
the sheep here got out yesterday and special horse helped the lad wh they belong to round them up. He couldn't believe it. Frankly neither could I...she's been drearily lethargic recently. Old pony on the other hand....:j:j:j:j all the time still.0
