Off to the dentist today (again!:o) and likely to be £200 lighter by the time she's finished, :eek:but after that I hope to be in a fit condition to visit a nursery for some Bocking 14 comfrey plants.

It will be interesting if we go there, because we originally looked at the place when it was for sale. It seemed well overpriced for a place with no retail permissions, so I sent an e-mail to the agents which read something like "You seem to be asking £125k for a field, a few jerry-built sheds and four polytunnel frames....Am I missing something?"

They didn't reply, so we assumed there was no hidden feature. :rotfl:The owner implied that if we lived in a caravan and worked hard for a few years, we might get permission for a bungalow.....So, definitely maybe, then. We'll see...;)

    Hi all,

Rummer....lol...nope the only thing i bought, well i didnt buy i swapped was a friend of ours had a stall there and she had a lovely hook made out of a folk, so i had that, and i gave her an old wedding dress ( she re-vamps clothe etc). and 3 pink zips for a £

It was a fact finding mission... so did not intend to spend any money apart from entrance fee etc, even took our own food, which i normally forget to do ( ok truth cant be bothered..lol..)

Aflie 'on something' you are on the joys of spring:D on nature's high, with all this glorious weather......if you are anything like me, you have a mad pang for a day or two ( at the most) and that is it until next year:rotfl:

Felting crafts are getting more popular, plus in the long run it could max the amount you could get for your fleeces

Well, my leak/spring was a missing/corroded bolt in a mains joint from a previous repair. Here's hoping there is no more. Ironically this might now be fixed right when the water looks useful....the rain has so far missed us. I hope its here tomorrow. Apart from tomorrow I have my back dated laundry to start working through.

I think our first trial pits for the footings are going in next week. How exciting will that be? I'm poised ready for more camp coffee bottles. :)

Oh, dear.....really! I have never grown chillies bar an ornamental one (at least I never used it!). I don't use all that much fresh chilli, a couple of packets a year which I freeze when bought at whoopsied. I buy habenero powder and west indian sauce etc.....but not sure my cooking justifies chillis being grown. DH ain't so much for the very hot food often.

    Evening all.

I'm scared of chillies. I had a bad experience with a pizza with chillies on it. It burnt my tongue and I cried - I mean I really cried!! Then about a year ago I saw this new flavour crisps called Jallopino. I didn't know what Jallopinos were. The crisps nearly made me cry too.

I'm not scared of going to the dentist though. Well I wouldn't be if I actually went. Eye tests and dental checks fell off the budget a long time ago along with hairdressers (of any kind).

If you are one of those people who are fearless of the dentist and want to save a whole rake of cash, go to your local City and sign on at the Dental Hospital (if it's a teaching/training hospital - not sure if they all are). I used to work a stones throw from Birmingham Dental Hospital and they would treat emergencies for free (but you had to get there about 6.00am for a 9.00am openning). A few years ago my wisdom teeth decided to take a walk and caused me so much pain as they progressively pressed my teeth closer and closer together. Dental pain has got to be the worst physical pain I've ever felt (an a par with my chemical burn). It hurt so bad I almost crashed my car on way to DH deliberately purely to end the pain. I cried openly and like a baby in the middle of the street! The pain trumps dignity. Anyway, Birmingham Dental Hospital take on patients for routine check-ups too (not sure if there's a waiting list to get on it - I never got round to signing up!). You do really need to be fearless of dentists to do this as it's the students that do your check-ups and carry out any dental work necessary. They'll only do routine dental work if you're registered with them (actually, I think they charged a minimal fee of £3 or it might have been £5 - can't remember now). I was a bit miffed after the event as they spent 4 hours trying to get the offending tooth out only to find it was a perfectly healthy tooth with a root that reached down to my ankles! Still the relief from the pain was instantaneous. I'm glad they didn't do what I'd originally told them, "Take them out! Take them all out! Please just take them all out!"

Anyway, hope all your fruit n veg is growing fab and escapped the "patchy grass" frost we were due last night. I thought, "I'm ok my grass isn't patchy".

LIR, glad you got your waterworks sorted. We may have a buyer for Tilly (got an email today). I never thought that the prospect of being £10 better off each month could be tinged with such saddness. Oh well, I suppose my 12 year plan to be debt and mortgage free has gone back down to my 10 year plan, especially as I'll be about £16 (I think) better off with the income tax code having gone up. I don't think my NI contributions will go up though as I think that has a higher earning threshold than what I earn. Yay! (Must look into that before celebrating).

Another epic post by Poo. Sorry I just can't stop once I get going! If you read down to here you're obviously as mad as me!

  • :rotfl::rotfl: It would be tempting to grow them just as a conversation piece. Don't bother with Chillies as I really don't like them in food at all.

More seeds growing, beans just starting to pop up, squash just showing some green so hopefully will be ready to put out in 2-3 weeks or so depending on the weather.

I think it's worth growing at least one plant, they are decorative as you say and are quite heavy fruiting, so you could end up with a load of ripe chillies at the end of the year and grind your own chilli powder.
Another hit at the man and another step to total self sufficiency. :D

Well, the dentist's bill was a bit lighter than expected:), and I wasn't quite dribbling when I came out, so we headed off to the Comfrey place, after making a hurried telephone appointment.

There, we met a lovely lady who explained their wholesale and mail order business and how they'd survived these past six years. It was all much as we'd envisaged, so despite creating a viable business, they are still waiting for permanent planning for their mobile home and can't sell on-site without appointments. It's a gorgeous location & much more sheltered than we are here, but there's a cost in being in a tourist zone and next door to a National Park. Different council from ours + posh area = say no more! ;)

So, there's a dozen good-sized comfrey plants sitting there, ready to go, and unlike the ones we had, these won't seed all over the garden.

Chilli Willies eh? Looks just like an elongated 'Bishop's Hat' type chilli to me, but full marks to someone for seeing a niche and filling it with... err...their Willies!:rotfl:

This year I have gone for milder varieties of chilli. I guess if we didn't sell them, we'd only have one or two varieties.

Rain looks likely today, so I shall probably be handed a hoover at some point.:( I'd rather be having another go at that horrible windbreak netting, for which I've worked out a cunning plan....

Davesnave/Poo, all this talk of dentists , going tomorrow for routine visit. But I'm deep down scared witless, maybe it was when I was a very young nipper and had my first extraction by gas. Woke up dizzy and nauseous, and dentist had a go at me for dripping blood while recovering :(

In the middle of trying to sort out finances going forward, so many options, annuities, drawdowns, trying to get it right makes the head spin as well!

Anyhow, garden's doing ok and as well as selling plants at the car boot on Sunday took 6kg of rhubarb down and it sold out :). Even sold the scales I took to weigh them!

Just about up to date with jobs, there's a first :j

Chillis? Fine with the sweet ones but cant take the very hot ones. Growing California Wonder and will put in about six plants nx month that were sown in late Jan. CTC's Californication variety looks pretty interesting, though maybe a bit small :D
