Well, the garden is floroushing if the weather isn't, heavy and grey..

Its damp and foggy here, a real contrast to yesterday. Potted about 20 welsh onion plants for future sale, and replanted the rest ready for companion sowing of carrots.

Been thinking about making a simple frame with an enviromesh top to grow brassica seedlings away from aphids. Last year the seedlings were covered in mealy aphids and had to be individually washed before transplanting.

Ebay listing tonight, supposed to do it last night but fell asleep at 7pm after a day in the sun :o

Horrendous rain again today & through the night - yesterday got too hot - weird or what?
Guess you lot are used to that by now!

Interesting with the wool CTC - I've sold some privately before, but for very little - population here is not that much but possibly I should ebay it? Talking of which just had a do with lady at PO - gosh is she difficult.
Didn't sell very much on the free listing but had a good sale, so that's funds to re-skin the poly - hurray!

Got most of the tatties in - so some progress made & seeds planted in new home made frame - hurray!
2 cockerels down this morning - one given to good neighbour - hurray!

Picked up a vintage mini doll on a mission last week - sort of sixties, anyone have any ideas how to price it?

Hmm...a bit of a warning. NOT the company I listed here before but another offering free barns for the roof space which seemed a better size/use for us has been under the ''fraud radar'' we run here ;) with my in house specialists (dad, husband and my dad's network) and though they looked ''casually'' legit, it seems they are dodgier than jammy dodgers.
    No free barn for us:(

Evening all. You all seem to have been very industrious! I hope all your water butts ar now full after the rain we've had.

I have good news, sad news, disappointing news and just other stuff.

The good news is that I was out in the garden for a few hours on Saturday in between a visit to the P.O. and watching the Grand National on tv. Very upset about losing 2 horses in that race - I cried alot (but then I always cry when they fall - with the GN I start crying when the tape goes up!). I'm really not sure why I watch it. Anyway RIP Ornais and Dooney's Gate.

Anyway, where was I..... Oh yes, out in the garden for a few hours and filled one of the wheelie bins to the top! Yay! I didn't manage to get out there on Sunday as I was up late on Saturday night, up early Sunday morning to watch the Malaysian GP then fell asleep, then put some new memory in my pc, having put the vac round it's innards to clean out the dust from all the nooks and crannies! When I put the pc back together it wouldn't boot! EEK!! I got it going in the end and it's fantabulous now! So fast I feel dizzy!!! Of course once the pcwas flying, so did the rest of the day so I didn't get back out in the garden on Sunday!

The sad news is that our racehorse needs a new home - away from racing and our racing club is breaking up after 18 years. I know that sounds extravagent but it's only £10 per month (I'm the pauper of the club and paid the least and had the least share but nobody knows who owns what share apart from the banker and secretary so don't tell anyone). Anyway, the club has been a source of entertainment and social interaction for me for the past 9 or 10 years and I am very sad to be £10 better off each month! I've loved all of our horses like pets and this one is the only one I didn't meet (due to where she was trained and the distance to the race meetings). I still love her though. She's only 4 years old and showed some potential in racing but she had some heat in her leg after her last race (her tendons stretched - common in racehorses). So it's bed rest for her and no running! She will get better but it will take a good 6 - 12 months and if she raced again it could happen again. We could have her "fired" (leg cut open and laser the tendens to shrink them) but whereas, that was once the way to do it, it's a procedure that's fallen out of favour I believe now. I never understood anyway because after being "fired" it would take about 6 months for recovery anyway(?!). So the club's numbers has dwindled to about 12-14 from about 22 due to redundancy, ill health and early work retirements and those of us who are left cannot afford to pick up the slack. Very sad.

ALFIEEEE! You take in aminals don't you? lol (only joking). (P.S. Can't wait to receive the ming!).

I do go on don't I? I haven't even done the disappointing news yet!

Anyway, the disappointing news is that due to my fascination with my newfound speedy pc I forgot to put the green bin out for collection last night! Got to wait 2 weeks before next collection. Still, I've got another wheelie bin to fill and I can always ask my neighbour(s) if I can use theirs.

Too bushed after work to go out this evening so must try harder tomorrow evening!

    Anyway, enough from me.

Hope you all have a great day tomorrow.

Good night and sleep well all.

Poosmate, depending on the tendon strain...has their been a scan....a year of dr green...paddock rest and then controlled return to work has worked for many a horse. (I did this as a job once, worked with some v. famous horses that became famous after their 6 months/year off. Always fun to say you've ridden this or that big winner...that it was mainly in walk down lanes is neither here nor there....;) After they could hand gallop up the gallops I had to give 'em back). Please don't fire her or use the alternative techniques. They really are very painful.

Whats the plan for her.....I wonder if anyone would notice if I slipped another in here...we're at too much grass time of year....what lines is she? do you have a piccy?

You are doing really well in the garden. V. impressive....did you take a before photo? You should be really proud of yourself, :)

eta: have you thought of another racing syndicate? there are a good few friendly ones I understand.

The rain didn't come today. we need it. The patches I watered yesterday stayed damp though, darker patches on the soil.
  • Well damp but not proper rain here and the sun peeped out during the afternoon. Raised bed blocks are still standing and DD assures me that she gave them a gentle kick when she got home from work and they are still standing :j

She is going to finish this at the weekend (fingers crossed) so will be able to start using it next week!

Sorry to hear about the poor horse Poo, love horses and would still have them if I had the energy/strength. Would always be tempted to ride though which with my back etc would NOT be a good idea.

Hope we all have a productive day tomorrwo.

yeah its a PITA, when trying to explain to dh for example, how to ride a moveent, that I can't just show him. Have ridden lightly two last weekends though...and I don't find being up there too bad in itself, its the getting on, but worse, the getting off. :o The getting of is a killer.:o:o

Yes LIR there has been a scan. We've taken both routes back to racing with horses previously. I don't think any of us realised how brutal "Firing" was, but it was what was reccommended to us at the time (quite a few years ago) by the vet and trainer.

    Check her out here:

    http://www.hjamesevans.co.uk/#/tildor-du-granit/4545743652

She's on bed rest now, she won't be running again (well not racing anyway). I believe the plan is to keep her until a loving home out of racing is found for her.

Not sure about joining another racing syndicate. Ours wasn't like any other. It was all based on trust - no paperwork. I know that sounds dodgy but we all worked together and the club has run this way for 18 years. It's only because the club has gone from 22ish members to 12-14 (I don't want to use the number in between them two) in the last 6-12 months and as the members have dropped out due to redundancy, ill health, early retirement those of us left have picked up the slack. But it's just too much now with training over £1k per month, then race fees, jockey fees, transport, BHB fees etc. I don't think any of us can afford to up our contributions enough to cover all the costs.

I haven't had an update as to what the next step is yet so will keep you informed.

Thank you for your kind words.

    Hugs

She is simply beautiful. Give me a yell if no home is found or decision made (or even if you want cheaper grass turnout than you pay at the trainers but not to rehome her). :o . Gorgeous, and her condition is a credit to her trainer.
