I managed to get the potatoes in over the weekend, and another few cabbages, a tray of lettuces, and the last of the garlic. My Sister had taken DD out for the afternoon on Sat, so I dragged OH to the plot for his first visit since last July! Spud bed now dug and one bag of second earlies (Orla, I think) are now sown. The second "fallow" bed this year is now covered also (I was going to plant my pumpkins there, but there isn't enough rain here so MIL is going to mind them instead, and FIL will water them if needed - it's as much about distracting him from newly retired status).

OH, while not overly impressed, reckoned that I have actually managed to get it loooking "presentable" by myself, and that I actually have it "under control" for a change. I am not kidding myself, there are parts that are going to be weed feasts in another few weeks. But we brought home another bundle of leeks and there is growth in all 4 productive beds for this year, as well as the fruit bed bursting into leaf. And there are 2 big beds that should have the weeds killed off during the year, with another small bed covered for "if" I get more time to dig it and sow more roots (that will be a "when" once I figure out what day I can take off work - even a couple of hours will do me).

The patio at home is covered in pots of all sorts, and hopefully I will see those disappearing in the next few weeks into permenant spots on the plot, and in various other gardens (I have squash family for my MIL, beans of various sorts and a courgette for an aunt, herbs for neighbours, MIL and mum, and hopefully spare tomatoes and peppers for a range of those folk too). I want to sow some mangetout peas and dwarf beans at home, but otherwise I am making good progress with those plans. And I am managing not to go overboard on winter veg yet until I know if I'll be here or not (possible overseas relocation for work for 4 years).

That's a load of colour Maggie, and lovely to see.

There were pressure washers out here too - one set of neighbours set theirs up for their own car and van, and washed cars for half the neighbourhood (well, all the neighbourhood kids did really!). And then, we had a lovely communal gathering yesterday evening once everyone's work was done - #1 fired up the BBQ and #'s 2, 3 and 4 all arrived with whatever was in the fridge and a bottle or 2 for a "french lunch" (lay out whatever is there, help yourselves, and there's no time limits). We were all sitting out enjoying the fact that at 8pm, we were still all in shirtsleeves outdoors - in April!!

    Good Morning!

Yesterday was a fabulous day in the garden and I got loads of things done :D. Cleared the front beds of weeds and the driveway. Weeded all the paths and re-organised the patio.

Then I got the fruit beds and raised beds dug over and weeded before finishing the bean bed and constructing my pole pyramid which is huge and looks fabulous!

Sounds as if you have all been really busy Maggie your garden is looking great. Winged one sounds like a fabulous day for you, it is lovely when these things just happen. CTC did you come home laden with goodies or was it more of a business scouting trip? Alfie it must be exciting having so many baby birds on the way. LIR poor horses having eyes bigger then their tummies :rotfl:

I dunno, their tummies are pretty big now!

The old poly pony who is ancient and has a cushings coat I was really worried about. Her topline has dropped, as you'd expect with a pony her age, and I could feel ribs through the couple of inches of coat. She drags her front feet...arthritis and some pretty ropey conformation and a very hard life combined, and was all in all looking a bit ropey. Alfie saw her being clipped, and out from under a shaggy brown coat has appeared a sleek, quite chubby little thing with a topline better than the horse a good fifteen years younger than her and the next step down in age....and she's travelling around the field in a bouncy canter everywhere ....I feel dreadful that all she needed was a good clip!

LIR she couldn't have been clipped before now as the weather was still unpredictable. Glad to hear she is reliving her youth!

Me too. I think she may need a rug at night this week anyway, but better to have something I can take off. She was really sweating under her hair. :( I think next year ...if she's still here, I'll have her clipped earlier, as the others come out of light weights in the day, and maybe a second clip in high summer if she needs it.

Good idea, as you say you can always work using rugs and then she will be a bit more comfortable. Hindsight is always fabulous though!

Well, the garden is floroushing if the weather isn't, heavy and grey..I'm hoping the rain breaks soon, the garden will slurp in up with delight. I've just noticed an aqualegia coming into flowerbud.

It was pouring with rain this morning which I was quite happy about after the work we did in the garden yesterday it saved me having to water it today. On the downside however it means that I can't get out doors and get more work done so I am having to tidy the house instead, yuck. I might however sneak down to the greenhouse and get a few more things planted!
