The leak/spring saga nears a conclusion here.....yesterday I had the water company out a agin and the guy told me how it was a spring and they've been here before and the microphones were picking nothing up at all etc etc
''Please test the water'' I begged
and instead of being fobbed off this guy said, ok...well if it will put your mind at rest and got out the water testing kit and....
...its a mains leak.
a leak which has been going on at a significant rate since we've been here and I'm told to a degree for years in the past. What a filthy waste. They've even had the road up in the past to investigate and not found the cause....and in all that time NEVER TESTED THE BLOODY WATER! Seriously, I'm becoming more and more disillusioned about the way services and people function.
I pointed out we'd spent money on structural engineers based on their assertion it was a spring, and that we are paying to pump this water through our system (its feeding the stupid pond we were mean to empty but now don't have to.) In the past when their was a slurry it could have lead to overflow and contamination.
They are coming in to dig it up next week and we'll see what happens from there.0 -
LIR I would have a wee chat with the CAB or a lawyer to see if you can claim back the expenses you have incurred.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

TBF, wessex water did also suggest I put it in writing for them and to consider compensation.
Don't get me wrong, we could use the money: bloody water is costing a bomb in one way or another. But I also feel that each complaint or search for compensation pushes the cost up of things for us all. we might get back a few hundred or so now, but it will go onto the water bill eventually, and not just for us but our neighbours too.
Plus the energy and time wasted claiming it. I'd like to have more energy but I don't. I'd rather divert it to something I feel more ''in control'' of. At the moment I'd rather use it as a tool to get the problem solved, and to have it sort of hovering over them to fully investigate. So far its working they called to tell me they'll be here and will involve me in decision making etc.0 -

I have felt the same way about things before and I understand wanting to avoid a big drama, once it is sorted a wee letter requesting compensation could be sent as you never knowTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Funny you should say that.....
My beloved Debate forum Nice People chums have been really encouraging in the past. Two tried to talk be through the world of ''blogging'' but it was just to technical for me. I did talk to a publisher last year, so spurred on by these dear people, one especially, but the publisher friend very frankly told me to think again and that I'm just not that talented
I'm writing a monthly column on another random topic ATM. Its mainly because the very good advice from someone I take seriously was just to keep writing, get in the swing of it. And I occasionally review the four or so chapters I wrote of something else. I'm aware my best tales are the ones I share, full of typos on this and the other thread. One of the Nice People in particular loves the chicken in the slurry pond story.0 -
Like you, I'm not as supple as I was, or as strong, but then I think, "Dad was still riding his push bike at 89....."
Dad used to do an exercise routine every day when he was in his 80s. Me, I'm exempt; I bought a smallholding! :rotfl:
I remember my father in his early 80's climbing 12ft up a ladder to put the corrugated sheets on the pony shelter on his own! Bearing in mind he was an inch above 5ft and has suffered with a tubercular spine as a child he got around a bit and took to the transplant from London to rural Cornwall as if he'd been born to it.
Always remind myself when I'm feeling sorry for myself of his 'get on with it' attitude.0 -

Looks like we're going to be dipping our toes into sheep fr a bit with a few grazing sheep coming for a few weeks. Its one of the few breeds I'd want to own too, so a bit like a trial run....not sure what the going rate of favour for grass rate is....0
