Yes, it is! No, if that compony are selling it I've been told wrong about full sun planting have I? ...

Nah, he sells all kinds of plants, and this one likes sun. Did you notice, the nursery is near Leigh Common? It's well run by a typically fanatical bearded male.

    I don't fit the stereotype...:rotfl:

    Hi all,

sorry but i havent caught up yet on un-read posts.. will do it after this post..

Is there anything we can do?

Situation the local news were on the development site last night.. filming the remains of the old ironworks, that was the largest in the world... You all know it has planning for a supermarket, but is there anyway would could get this revoked due to the fact they didnt realise the extent of how much remains of the iron works are left..?

Are any of you lot solicitors? they are going to start demolishing it soon

here is a link to it on iplayer.... its more or less the end article

such a pity big developers can ruin people's lives and the local history...

Anyway..back at the ranch:rotfl: was a glorious day yesturday, and it looks as though its going to be nice today too,

got to work all day today...lol.. but i am itching on days like this just to be out in the garden...

CTC, when planning is granted they will have consulted the archaelogical records held be Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust in Swansea, who hold the register for the whole of Glamorgan and Gwent. My best idea to cut thru all the guff is to phone them and ask whether the development is damaging the historic environment, whether they were consulted and what actions are being taken to protect it.

They answer to WAG and the Local Authority planning dept (other possible phone calls). If important remains are known about in advance then protection/preservation is usually built into the planning, sometimes even entombing the remains, sometimes resiting parts of the development. If historic interest is likely, then there will be a watching brief by an archaelogist to record fetaures and recover features if necessary e.g. Newport Ship.

I wouldnt get your hopes up though :(

Glorious day yesterday and got a fair bit done even though the seeds are still in their packets.

Having undocked the chicken rover from the winter section and moved it onto the spring grass, dug out the underlying bed of 3 months chicken poo etc and replaced with the free soil improver, putting the poo in the compost heaps ready for squash growing.

Then a few poles, string and sweet peas and the runner bean bed was prepared for planting next month

Bit of dismantling and tidying up to do as you can see :o

Looks good! What are the square supports for?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Hi Lotus Eater, they're the supports for the asparagus when its left to grow after the cutting season. They suffer badly from wind rock otherwise.

I know on the news they said they didnt realise how much of the boiler room was left, they had a specialist firm in to do the time team bit.. i think this was part of the planning application..

was just wondering because there was more left than originally thought

I think they plan on covering it all up, but what use is that when there is the supermarket's storage area right on top of it:rotfl:

They work on the basis that all archaeological digs are destructive and it can be better to entomb whats left without excavating. OK, you cant see it/get to it with part of a supermarket on top but its preserved/location recorded for future interest.

    None of which helps you!
