What a lot of lovely photos recently, in awe at Maggie's moon and cant believe how much work Davesnave and Mrs Davesnave have done!
Lir, your white violet, if native, may be sweet, but the scent test is iffy as the nose quickly get used to it! We've got a patch in the field.
Got over half the main veg beds full now, broad beans and leaf beet went in the other day with new potatoes in today filling three 10'x4' beds. Rhubarb moved last year into better soil is growing really well, more for wine-making
Weather is so local round here but for once we've had more sun than usual so been able to experiment using the solar pv. If we're not using it for washing or cooking, we spot heat main room with a convector set at generation level. On a sunny day this month its worth maybe 6-8 kWh of free heat daily after other uses and means using woodburner or CH is delayed. Proof of the pudding....daily grid import this month so far is 6.3kWh, down 3.6kWh from last yearIt'll be interesting to see how low we can get grid import in high summer.
Just got to fit felt to the wood store roof to finish it, counted 15 pieces of scrap wood in the roof cladding alone, best well hidden. FWIW its prob best to build a wood store then fill it, not build the store round the wood pile
. Davesnave, you would not be impressed!!

aww the sheep are lovely
and i loved having a peep at everyones pics
well been dry here so spent the day trying to sort out a 4-5 foot deep boarder under my frountroom window, sadly it was over grown with ramsons and they were chocker, so ive reascued the few plants i put in there 2 years ago, golden rod, and a poor lavender, devieded a 3 foot clump of irises and replanted around the garden. Rescued my grape vine and replanted that in the back garden next to the rose arch, freecycled phesents berry bushes x2 and hardy fushia, that a prevous tentent had planted right at the frount of the boarder, they had really over growen the space. Still got about a third of the boarder to do even though ive been at it all day :eek: will be so pleased when i fill the boarder up with my hubbys fav flower marigolds got 6 diffent types growing from seed on the window stiles indoors and im going to plant my amaranths (mixed grain) in there, so will have flowers and color but it will still be part edable0 -

hi all...
i laughed out loud at CTC's description of thier neighbourly status !:rotfl::rotfl:
IF i had neighbours im sure i would be in the same position !!:o
i got in at 2.30am today after an exhausting "try on" of THE clothes... we lamented that we were a tad too big to fit some....mainly in the waist area [or rather lack of waists!] but we laughed so much we hurt !!:D
today i had a grumpy Mabel to tackle...she was throwing her feed bowl around...think shes in season.
i visited my parents as sister was visiting from devon.[think its devon:o] then i went to work more on the railway... got lots to do yet [repairs and maintenance] the owner allows charities to have an open day in thier 7 acre garden once or twice a year. [choille, this owner re surprise] thier garden is just beautifull, like exbury gardens [dont know if any of you have been there??] azalias, rhoddies, lakes etc. the charity gets the railway on working display thrown in... its so funny cos the husbands always "dump" thier wives on the "garden walk" and then make a bee line for the railway :rotfl:... they all want to "control" a train. it is an amazing thing to see. i volunteer my time to help park all the cars then i don my railway head and im the "put back on track" train helper:rotfl:...
im not "into" trains etc but i love the building and structuring side...i will try and put a pic on here... [bored yet ??]:)
then, i went to see another friend for a cuppa, got a fab mirror out of her shed.....im going to "look after it" for her:D
iv still got the sofa /seat from tip in my van and the dogs have sort of adopted it !! look like very spoilt doggies sat on that going along:rotfl:
sorry this is a lot of woffle...:o
my son has printed me off the road route to get to s. yorks tomorow and i note its VERY near a prison:) just got this image of an inmate nipping out to flog me a wagon and nipping back in...loaded !!
well i didnt get a pic of the moon, too cloudy:(
none of my chicks have hatched yet:(
and my pekin was obviously put out at me discovering her in the bucket and has jumped ship to ...????
well sorry to not be interesting....:o oh my potatoes are peeking well and my beans are up, my carrots etc are still hiding, but im a bit behind cos of the chooks in the greenhouse !!
LIR... i can get lots of pots...up to tree pot size [some with handles] any good for you???0 -
I've got a nice red one - rhubarb, can't think what sort it is. I have two plants - one comes after the other - staged. I did get another crown the other week - out of The Pound Shop but that'll be a couple of years before get owt off that.
Horse people there is horse blankets in LIDL - Believe it or not.
Feel a right numpty. I didn't realsie that I am restricted to listing only 100 items a month & spent ages gettng stuff ready to list but can't do any more. I shouldn't have put up so many cheapos - 99p stuff. Should of done all the dearer stuff & not relisted the stuff that no one seems interested in & has beenrelisted continually - doh!
CTC - I think we take the crown for scruffs next door - what with the ole VW rusting away & our caravan & little caravan & rusty MZ & other srap.
Very huge moon again & blowing a gale.
I feel rough - sore throat & feel like I've been kicked all over - must have picked up a bug.
Really low tide tomorrow, hope to get down the bottom & have a look see but not if I feel as rough as I do now.0 -
Alfie - Not waffling at all. Sounds like you know some really interesting people.0

I'm glad you folks think that DW and I work hard, because our bodies certainly agree, and I'd hate to think I'll feel as sore as this permanently! It's easier when there's two, and I count myself very fortunate in having a partner who not only enjoys the messy jobs outside, but also knows as much (or often more!) than I do about how to approach them. Today, for example, we spent about 6 hours in the trench, planting the beech saplings, grovelling around on hands and knees filling in and pulling out the couch stems as we went. But wasn't it a great day for that? I was in a tee shirt until 6.30, when it was still 12C.:)
I'd also say that our place isn't a hobby, so I get frustrated, because the plant production & sales aren't what they were. We've lost so much stuff and slipped far behind on those aspects of our work which are supposed to start providing an income. However, I've promised to shut up about that and accept that it will take the rest of this year to get our nursery built.....so I will...almost!
Zarazara, I'm impressed with your interesting sheep, and your very tasteful field shelter. While I'm with lir on sheep, I did enjoy looking after the ones we had here over winter. DW is off down to Pete's when those start lambing. I might join her!0
