The buildiing inspector from the council was nice....but what a rip off. If I've read the charts and fees right, for each window we replace it has to be checked and the charge £100. To look at a window. To assess our pooing facilities is costing three hundred. We'll have to do a lot of ''off grid''defecation to make that pay back!

LIR - Is this coz of min Building warrant? If that's the case why not do it under a single warrant? Can't make sense if that is Eng regs. Here Building Control rate is a percent of actual build costs.

Really freezing hard here .Heard on 6 o.clock news that a Tornado ditched into the sea off Gairloch this afternoon today just when we were sipping coffee in a Hotel over looking the water - the two guys ejected sucessfully. The jet burst into flames. We never saw a thing, Neither did anyone else - fancy missing something as dramatic as that. It must have been ute a distance off shore. We never even heard jets going over.

Saw the most hidden wonderful house today with woods & pools & water walkways - just a honey of a place tucked away. But as Oh says it'll be midgy in the Summer - well so are we I suppose. Trad house but they have whacking UPVC windows in. Really glad we've ordered hard wood ones. I really dislike UPVC - no offence meant.

Rugging her this winter will be ok. She'll get over it next year. BUT, tbh, the general thought is that even rug less she will be WARMER outside. Standing still in a stable she generates food fro eating. Outside she generates food fro eating and she can move around if she needs to warm up. We have a rugless chap here, he's wooly, but no native coat....I'd chuck her out.:D

I'm with you on UPVC. No plastic comes in this house. ;) I can imagine the advantages while I sit here in the draught.:o

Not sure what ''min Building warrant is''. The cost of the sewerage check was done on percentage of works..windows are a set fee. We can't have the single fee..they said our reno wasn't covered, new build would be.

LIR - In Scotland the fee is based on probable cost & is a percent of that & it is up to the local authority to come out & inspect it however many times they think they will need to & that is not charged directly but is considered covered in the percent based fee which is paid when lodging the Warrant - (forms & drawings) to Building Control.

Totally different system by the sounds of things - we seem to be getting more & more complex & more bureaucratic...............and boring.

Personally, I'd probably introduce all together.....BUT that's me and I'm a little gung ho AND I have the wise old ladies who calm things down very quickly, and no littles :) You have mini babies too...Hmm.

I think you know them best. If the littlies are just going to be charging up and down a fence line it might make things more drawn out, but if you can get them out the way entirely it might be worth intrducing her just to Barney. Especially as she's been in for a while and will probably be quite ''whizzy'' :)
