  • Lowest egg day for ages....only two, and only three yesterday.

Still, we've only had ONE no egg day so far...the girls probably need a break. :)

BUT, I have one hen who is laying on a rafter. Far to high for me to reach them, and what normally happens is they fall or are pushed down and break. Any idea why she's lay on high not in her ''nest box'' (i.e. under a milk bottle in the milking parlour or in a cardboard box on the floor)

Maybe she's into 'extreme egg laying' or some such sport :) if you wanted her to lay high up she'd use the box.

ooooo! i put a request re my "power" problem on a "THREAD" [i thought i was so clever even being able to find what/where/how...] i thank RAS for finding it, and i have fired off some e-mails to various companies as suggested...BUT i have got to admit that i have a thumping headache now, reading very technical answers/questions given/asked by obviously much smarter people than me !!!!:o
so i think i may pass my quest on to someone i know that can look into it all for me and im not looking like a complete "dinny" !!!:)

and.....one forum at a time so sorry folks your stuck with me !!;)

alfie - I got a huge reduction from electrickery company than their original quote - always query their estimate. I don't have full power - doesn't bother me, don't have an ellecy cooker nor do I use much power stuff. The supply will e upgraded when someone else gets a supply - I'll leave it to them to pay for an upgrade - I'm not bovvered as we will suppliment our supply with a mini hydro system for the house.

To change topic - what causes yellow runs in hens? What do I give them? Anti-biotics?

thank you and i think i am going to tackle the elec board again.... it would be so much simpler! i am finding the limitations to this site [national park, grade 2,location] very frustrating but i love this spot and will "put up and shut up" if it means having to continue as i am !!:)

re hens....have they found a bannana stash ??:) or maybe artichokes??[thier version of a fart?:rotfl:]

  • Well it has started:mad: they have started clearing the area where the supermarket is going to go, they have been cutting down trees and have got a digger in clearing the brambles etc....

Really do feel sick now....but when it does start properly with the lorries and the building etc, I am going to be on to the council every day, any bit of noise, and near- misses when we try and get out of our road... and bad language heard ( except if its me of coarse...lol..) any blocking of our road, even if its just for a minute...

As i am hoping all the complaints logged will go against the developers trying to get retail permission on the other land...

Right better go to work.... before i get in a even worwse bad mood, ( look out everyone at work...lol...)

:rotfl: at all the comments, and yes I'm sure her majesty is above such things. I'm pretty lucky as a vegetarian my system seems to be primed to cope with loads of fibres so doesn't react in extreme ways anymore (mind you it's taken 20 odd years to get used to it).
Nothing to do with fibre, more to do with what they have in them, without wanting to google it (as I don't remember, blimey I could have googled it and got the info by now!)) they have something in them that the body can't break down and it comes out as windy weather from the bottom.

Do try some from the shop before growing them.

i had a bantam once who used to lay her egg in a disused pigeons nest in a fruit tree ??
i put the pigeon nest [plus branch!] on the ground by a bush and she followed the nest!
    Lovely story :D
I once had to set a video camera up to find out where my ducks were laying, they always waited till I wasn't watching and then went off into some distant hedge. Then the chickens started copying them :rotfl:

  • Sorry to hear it's all started CTC.

Anyone who wants some artichokes please PM your address, they do post well, a small box full will cost about £2 to post I think (happy to trade for something). Yes I probably will be digging up plenty for my needs for years to come!

I could probably rustle up a few spare strwberry plants to go in with them as well.

With all this talk of wind. its maybe relevant that I've just been told (nicely) that I stink :o

This may have something to do with the fact that I've just shovelled up several bagloads of humming, hot, municipal compost, brought them home and spread them on DW's rose beds and the terraced veg bed.

Am I praised for this act of selfless kindness? What do you think?

Next thing I'll be given a bell to warn people I'm near ;)
