    Happy Boxing Day Peeps.

    choille,

you might want to have a look at this thread...

Cheers for that CTC - I've signed up, sounds good.
Good to see the gas bottle stoves. Used to know someone who made them - a travelling man from a very old Scottish tinker family.

We went for a bit of a jolly round and about as the road seemed much improved. The tracks on the frozen Dundonnell river appear to be deer tracks, possibly sheep's but they appear too big for that. We seem to have slushy rain now but it is supposed to be a big dump of snow tonight. Our water is still frozen.

LIR - Not handy running out of heating oil - will they be able to deliver?

Met the keeper from a local estate & he said he'd got back from Newcastle on Tuesday & the roads here are the worst.

Last year they put sand from the shore on & loads of people got broken wind screens as there were loads of stones in it. Feel like offering them a few months less road tax this year as it's been a while where we've been stuck.
I think CTC mentioned about the state of the roads. Same here - loads of cracks, pot holes appeared. Also where we took the photos of the icicles, when you look up the cliff there are huge chunks of rocks - I mean huge, that seem to have shifted with the ice. These are directly above the road.

There's been a helicopter trailing around the Pudding - big mountain just down from us - someone must be up there needing assistance -

Can you believe that anyone would climb in this - well I can as my brother is a climber & they are mad.

Time to dish up the curry now - :T

    That's dreadful. :(:(

re oil, no idea when they'll deliver. They took two and a half weeks to get to my parents last month. I ordered at the same time and had a call from them asking how much oil I had, which is how I know we had some a fortnight ago! I said go ahead and deliver to people who need it more....silly me.

No not silly LIR, just you being honest.

It's good to have more than one form of heating - the council took out people's fireplaces in some areas - madness.

I love roast duck. I roast on a rack in a roasting tray and don't bother draining the fat along the way (as the duck sits above it anyway). I'm sure it will be yummy. do you have a sauce?

Lir, well done on the oil, not so sure I would have been so honest :o

Davesnave, at least the sun dont shine where you keep your bruises ;)

    Alfie,
a 600g box of Thorntons went mostly uneaten last night, DW and DD2 coughing and spluttering instead. Is everyone fluey this crimbo? Was supposed to have delayed crimbo dinner today but several people are ill (including DD1) so it looks like its off. Turkey needs cooking though, how many turkey recipes do I know? :D

Rozee, I look at the smallholding center sometimes and try to guess the ones you and OH might like, maybe 2011 is your big year?

Anyhow the thaw has started down here and its light rain atm. And after a nervous hour or two managed to thaw out the garage tap yesterday, the feeling of relief when the water came out of the tap instead of thru split pipes, I was very, very lucky :o
  • Hi all,

I feel as though i am in limbo land today...not used to all of us being in the house for so long....lol...

Think i will have another cuppa in peace, while everyone else is still in bed, and then try and get some stuff listed on turbo lister, ready for ebay....

The snow is slowly melting in places, wonder if it will all melt by the time the next freeze is on us?

We have a thaw AND water coming out of the tap - wow.

Hope the duck was tasty alfie - one of my favs especially with an orange sauce. Hope the family gets over the coughs rhiwfield.

Just debating whether we go & get some supplies in before the next onslaught or potter about doing wood.

I have very few house plants left - they were relegated to the shed as there's no room in the caravan. My elderly cactus was looking peaky t'other day, brought it in here & it's sort of 'melted', keeled over looking all ...err ..flaccid. I'm annoyed about that. It looks as if it was frozen & bringing it in here to the relative heat has finished it off - shame.

Turbo listing CTC - good for you.

Only patches of white left here this morning, and those ar mainly slushy. Its so odd....I find the change back to a world in colour as startling as the wake up to white out.

The loo has thawed too....we're meant to get 5 degrees tomorrow....maybe we'll get the troughs back! We were snug last night in the sitting room, if not too comfortable...and the feral cat sang in our ears but now we can't find her. Now we are in we're going to try a quick bath off the immersion switch then find the cat.

It seems much duller here now the snow is melting and the pavements are a bit like an ice rink! We now have water and heating at the same time which is a luxury I will not take for granted again!

Been spending a lot of time thinking about finances so I am going to get a few things sorted in the new year!
