That was marvelous! Mine is a malibu though not a beer! Santa brought me a whole load of really nice and unusual seeds plus a wee heap of planting trays, I am so looking forward to getting them started! Please can you all remember to tell me when to start them indoors as I missed the boat last year!
Santa bought me three seed packets too, and I'm terrified. They are all V&A wild flower mixes...the sort of seed that usually fails for me. Other seeds I'm quite good with...
other things I'm a little gungho about. I tend to choose a day that suits me, not necessarily when the seed packet says. A lot of feb indoor sowing , fo rexample happens in January if I have time and a lot happens in March, because I forgot/didn't have time!
edit to add:
Its been flippin' freezing here today. we've had to put a heat lamp over a water trough in the barn the horses can wander into because the ice was reforming almost immediately broken. The snow that earlier in the week was forecast for tomorrow is now not forecast, and rain next week...so it WILL be worming up!0 -
Happy Christmas all, hope you all got exactly what you wanted from Father Christmas.
May I be the first to wish everyone a happy Boxing Day too (seeing as it's past midnight now)!
Hope to get on earlier tomorrow, take care all,

It's boxing day here too, and I'm sat by the fire waiting for my hair to dry after washing it in tepid water because our boiler has frozen up! When I got in about 5pm today it was already freezing, I took the thermometer outside out of interest and it was -10 and that was near the house; I could tell it was colder out in the fields, so don't like to think how cold it must be by now (and no, I'm not going out in my dressing gown to find out)0

With all this fuss about Christmas (;)) you may have missed something that happened on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
But in this bleak midwinter I can console myself that each day is getting just that bit longer. 26 seconds longer today here near Cardiff :j
Happy solstice everyone (belatedly)

26 seconds really can make a difference too.
Its a beautiful sunny day here, but the heat lamp we took from the feed room to hang over a trough left the feedroom vulnerable and it froze up again. Out door loo is frozen (why do I never check first?) and we went out to poo pick and everything is just stuck hard and fast to the ground. DH is trying to decide where to plant his Christmas present...three sweet chestnut trees....:)0 -
Choille, I think one thing that helps a bit at this time of year (and we're past the Solstice!) is to start planning for the year ahead.
The solstice wasn't completely ignored, but only mentioned in passing.
Thanks for the link, though I'm having problems configuring for Winkleigh........;););)
I fell down this morning, carrying two cans of hot water to unfreeze the troughs. I'm fine, but why did I have to do it in front of DW after lecturing her about being careful on the compacted snow/ice?:o
(It was this time last year she fell off my barrow ramp, resulting in long weekly trips for physio/acupuncture. Forewarned is forearmed and all that......I think! :rotfl:)0 -

Davesnave, hope you are ok, and not badly brusied... or ye and your 'bits' badly burned with the water;)
Afew days ago, they said we might have snow, then they said it was going to get milder, and we were going to have rain today.. well its its brass monkeys, very cold, and the sky looks very cloudy...
Idont know about where you lot live, but the frost and snow has played havoc with some road surfaces around here, loads of holes and cracks etc...
The kids and hubby are going to have a wonder round to see if some of the shops are open, they want to buy some games for their new xbox, so i have asked if they will go and see if Dunelm mill is open, so they can get me a few more mini bolster cushion inners, so i can make a few more cushions for the antique place to sell,
With the calmness of yesturday ( well after the presant opening bit..lol..) I had loads of time to think and re-focus, I have lapsed, and I could be making more of an effort of getting more pennies in, so I think my New Year's resolution is not to slack on money making things...even if I only make a few pennies, those pennies WILL add up..
Will start today, by switching one of my bank accounts from Santanderr to First Direct....so I will get another £100 for
switching:D
I didnt get any seeds this year.....but i have got a load left over from last year... really do need to sort some garlic out... before its too late..Work to live= not live to work0
