thought you might like this poem.......

    Theres much to be said
    for old age being fun,
    the ups and the downs
the "to do,s" and the done.

    our hair will go grey
    as time trots on,
    the wrinkles set in
    and the teeth are gone.

    side by side
    wheelchairing along,
    not giving a dam
if we are getting it wrong.

so you ll be my "cranky"
and i ll be your "old"
    together forever
    as good as gold !!

As we're out of penalty-free cash, we've been thinking about how to sell our old nursery garden....... what is a rear entrance (pedestrian) worth on a £300k house? The agent has his view, but I'd be happy to hear others' thoughts..

is the land off of any of your access routes?

This garden is 100 miles from here, in a city. When we sold-up in late 2008, we were creative. To get the price of our house down, we fenced off 1/3 of the garden, gave it pedestrian access, and kept it! :)

If we sold this garden as just 'garden land,' it wouldn't be worth a huge amount, maybe, but it's bordered by Victorian houses with back yards, and two of them are land-locked. The potential to give rear access and/or room for rear extension is key here. There's no independent building plot, unfortunately!

I would be tempted to report them, not for the barking but the sub temperatures and conditions they are being kept....
Most people who use kennels and run will have a pig lamp in the kennel. I have no guilt about doing it in the right circumstances. TBH I think its probably more interesting for a dog than being shut in a kitchen with no view stimulation all day if its owners work, rather a run where they can widdle, bird watch, wrestle a toy....but not under these circumstances!

The barking however is a problem......I can imagine how annoying it is to ..well almost everyone!

To be honest, I don't know what conditions are like inside the (stone) kennel, but clearly, there could be heating of some kind. There is no evidence of deliberate cruelty and, as lir says, there are thousands of dogs shut inside houses every day which howl & bark and no one cares, unless it impinges upon their own lives, of course.

We're also trying to avoid a dispute, so reporting would be a last resort, especially as there are two closer neighbours who might pick up blame.

I'll be editing this post down in a day or so as this is an open forum ........(Now edited)

Davesnave, any post written at quarter to three in the morning probably deserves editing :D. Guinea fowl, peahens, howler monkeys, all came to mind but seem a bit indiscriminate, what was that cold war phrase (that seems far too up to date atm what with Korea), "Mutually Assured Destruction"

Anyhow in this season of goodwill why not put up a long row of cardboard smilies on the boundary, thats bound to ease tension :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Lir, you've prob seen the forecast of the thaw starting Sunday followed by lots of heavy rain. It'll be just like Glastonbury in the wet.

With what's left of my root veg lying under nigh on a foot of snow it was off to Lidl to restock. Dont think my plot is big enough to be totally sufficient in veg (definitely so if you include spuds) and this weather has really mucked up my brassicas :( Its still nice though to be using the onions, garlic and apples in store, and we've got a lot of frozen and preserved produce left.

Things may be getting back to almost normal here, even the postman called twice, though rubbish collection is 2 weeks overdue. Looks like we'll delay crimbo until next week when family will get together for a meal and pressie swap.

I was wide awake, having conked-out after dinner & woken to find everyone else asleep. That's perfectly normal here.

I do, seriously, fancy having a few guinea fowl some time, but not right there. They are supposed to be vegetable friendly and they taste great. We had one last Christmas. :)

I woke to the news this morning that all our main roads have had 2 foot snow drifts from surrounding fields. we've still got a pathetic amount on the ground and rooves, but nothing on the tops of hedges.

I'm coughing and spluttering and generally unpleasant to be around. My fantastic, darling husband has gone outside to do all the animals without me suggesting I stay inside in the less cold ;) He did the late check without me too...and stayed that everyone outside was huddled near or under the lamps. :)

edit: all lamps bar chickens one off this morning. Old cuckoo made pityful indecision while dh fed the others...walking towards the food, then back to the light, towards the food...back to the light....so dh took her her own breakfast to the light. She's a little spoilt!
  • we have been told on the weather forcast we 'might' have snow on boxing day..

Davesnave, have you thought about putting the land into auction? with a reserve, this way you could get a few nieghbours bidding... plus i should imagine there would be a few ruffled feathers between the losers and the winner.....lol...

Plus you might be a few more squid that way, plus With auction its all got to be all done and dusted within 28 days, so in theory you are not hanging round for your money...Plus some times when things have a bit of a grey area around them regarding value, I allways feel in auctions it will find its true value....

If you are going to put it up for auction, make sure that the neighbours that might be, or it will effect KNOW its going up for auction....

For those who know whats going on...;) I havent had any replies yet...So i can injoy christmas...
