Only one pipe and at a joint though. It took us ages to chip through the ice to get to the mains to switch it off
i was very upset to hear rain in the night! most of the snow is gone ,just where it is sheltered or thick, it remains... having stocked up, chopped huge stack of wood and generally got ready for the snow invasion it ups and goes..!!:(

Its not leaking but only because the mains is off and I've been filling the trough in that yard with a bucket from another trough to ensure the horses don't run out in their preferred trough (they have two ATM.) We drove miles for the right part, got it,came home and its not the right part after all. Everything here is very jerry-built and the thing is when we have an emergency repair it highlights something else that will fail soon or needs doing. Any way, we have another part now, but its dark and cold and I keep telling dh to come in. It'll do to get it done tomorrow.
The fields are ice and slushy mud with the melt, and the horses are soaked from the rain. Its the kind of weather it would be lovely to live in a smart city home, clean and dry and drinking something hot and alcoholic, with no worry about whether you have enough towels for dogs feet and how long it will be before the grass is a sea of mud.:(0 -
This ex-hippie says you can keep your Afghan coats - they always smelled, and I can't imagine being 40 years older will make them any better!:p
Just got home & unloaded from spending my Winter Fuel Allowance.....on greenhouse staging!:o 3600 square feet of heavy duty stuff was advertised at a decent price in our Devon Smallholders' magazine, so as the weather was OK, we nipped down to Kingsbridge to buy it.
The seller should have mentioned that some of the parts were 18' long though, especially as the load space on the van is only about 11'. Somehow, we got it all in, barring the 7' sticking out the back, which in the absence of a red warning light or triangle, was sporting a pair of bright orange overalls, fixed on with gaffer tape! We avoided Plod on the return trip, which isn't easy on the A38, but he was busy with someone else as we whizzed by, trousers flying.
I think we'll probably put the staging down one side of the polytunnel and use the surplus as our table for farm gate sales.
Speaking of those, I'm glad we don't live in the South Hams, if the experience of the farmer/nurseryman we spoke to there is typical. Admittedly, his table is at the end of his drive, but he reckoned only 70% of what he 'sells' there is ever paid for. In these parts, it is still rare for anything to walk off, though payment sometimes turns up a few days late.0 -

:rotfl:oh how i laughed at your story! the times iv had way too big/long a load in my van and somehow escaped being "pulled over" !!
the funniest was when i had a toyota 4x4 and i "placed" on the roof rack a telegraph pole ! well it was free and i wanted to put up an old dovecott ...... i drove home looking like a chermann tank [spelling bad but u get the gist!] how i didnt get "done" i dont know??0 -
you lucky monkeys:rotfl:
I get pulled even when there's nothing wrong....
dont know where the day has gone....
too late to take pics of stuff for ebay now, as these flipping eco bulbs things that we all got to use now are carp for taking photos under, i think i have a few more 'normal' light bulbs left for emergencies... I also hate crafting with them on...
or it just my eye sight is going with my age:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Lethal here too & the main roads are black ice.
Water came back on without a burst - so that's a bonus.
Must do something to raise a load of cash as I'm bluggered if I'm spending another Winter in here.
Keep cozy.0 -

It is scarily icy here today and OH was trying to clear the path and there is around 2 inches of ice! We spent the day walking through the park and drifting in and out the local shops it was lovely.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Goodness, take two days off and there's more posts on here than Davesnaves smallholding!
The rain yesterday is well frozen so it'll be slip-slidy to take DS2 to work this morning. Yesterday was bad too, craft fair for DW and roads were treacherous. Heavy rain during day kept footfall low so made a small profit but nothing great. 3 (!!!) other stalls selling handknits so competition fierce, other stalls selling mainly on price but we held our prices and seemed to take as much as anyone. Two more fairs before christmas then we'll take stock of progress. Cautiously pleased so far that DW can make stuff people like and pay a fair price for.
Ah well, another 3 weeks and the days start getting longer again, with maybe the odd celebration before then
Keep warm all.0 -
