Hi Maggie - maybe we are the way we are coz of the fuzzy felt.:rotfl:

Sparrow hawks are like arrows - incredibly fast. Nature in the raw out at the bird feeders sometimes.

The wee birds are around the hens, getting the spilt grain & bread & scraps too. I usually buy a sack of seeds for about £10 - much cheaper than buying little bags of it. I can feed it to the hens too.

Up at a neighbours yesterday with her shopping we'd brought her - on her doorstep she had a polysterene box with seeds in & a bowl of water = also she'd made a fat block with some fat & seeds & raisins & some deer fat from around the kidneys. Those birds, and there are a load in her garden, are really well catered for.

We've had quite a quick thaw today & the mole hills that have appeared in the top field is amazing.
Supposed to get really cold again.

the snow has not altered here today except it has become compacted ice wherever a car/human has flattened it! so may be dodgy tomorow... my birds are queing up in the morning for thier food. made it to scats to stock up on fat balls, was going to try and make my own [getting lard/suet??] im getting up to 6 robins [rubbish they dont get on! think only in the breeding season they get territorial?] iv got 4 spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches, wrens! and all the tit family plus all sorts of finches.
i have a nuthatch that is driving me mad pecking at something on my big upstairs bay window sill...?? no idea what its doing but it DOES IT early every morning?
i have a dozy wood pidgeon that keeps flying into the chook pen [like a large aviary 20ftx10ft, thier night time pen with thier shed in,wired roof] but doesnt have the sense to find the door way out?? so i have to shoo it out each night!
iv chopped a stack of wood, filled the indoors cupboard and stacked load in the verandah. probably snow will go now iv done all this!!:o
im sat by my fire now and am trying to gear up to go and have a bath....
me thinks another cup of yorkshire first tho !
hope you all are safe and warm

is it just me or has anyone else noticed that even on "cleared" roads, drivers are driving slower and indicating and generally being responsible ??.......YET in good weather they dont indicate, drive fast and are irresponsible ??......guess its thier precious cars and insurance costs rather than other peoples safety that is uppermost in thier minds or am i being cynical!!
just wish they would stick to safe driving all the time not just cos its naff weather!

LOL, suspect that's true! In which case I will make very certain the Twins are exposed! ;)

Just watching the Edwardian Farm, really started me thinking about my family tree stuff again. Maternal Grandmother was a Lady's Maid, travelled to Europe with her, then married the local to the house baker (in Wales), my Grandfather. She was from England, so never really made friends as she didn't speak Welsh.

Just loving all the ways to polish wood, and leather too.

Work to live= not live to work
  • well its been piddling it down all night, but its 'cold rain' hubby has gone up to work for a few hours, and he has just phoned to say the roads are really bad..... water on top and ice underneath, cars sliding everywhere.. people thinking there is no ice on the road, and its like glass.....

so best thing to do for me is to stay in and not go to work;):D

Davesnave.... have you finished reading yet.....

going to have a cuppa and then start getting stuff ready to put on ebay.... really do need to get some extra pennies quick...

talking of pennies.. think i will start emptying the loose change jar, there should be a bob or two in there....:rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
Lethal here too. The icerink out the front is a good two inches thick....but the first ungritted yard is a mixture of running water and black ice. Yeah, running water. Only one pipe and at a joint though. It took us ages to chip through the ice to get to the mains to switch it off :(

a "designer" coat has just sold for £200 so get going !! sheepskin [real] hats, like hoods with the hanging pom poms on strings either side are fetching £15 + . OLD hand embroidered panels do well also. not tableclothes etc but the ones from fireguards or cushions but the finer the stitchwork the better!
    p.s.
if you get your hand on any of the old 70s/80s hippy style hairy fur coats they are REALLY in demand. bohemian style? afghans!
