There are a number of companies that offer it http://uk.sheepwoolinsulation.com/

Wool has a higher fire resistance than cellulose and cellular plastic insulation.

Can't think of much thats more flammable than the straw up there ATM:o

The good news for the house is after dodgy feeling about our surveyor and difficulty finding another a friend of my parents is reading our notes and survey and is going to help us find the right bod to help us and check on things along the way (we could never afford the friend himself:o)

I had the pre winter collywobbles today. feeling a bit thinly spread, the feral cat is keeping me up through the night and I'm worried about leaving everything next week...away for 3 and a half days, business not pleasure. I'm going to have to take the carpet up on the landing the feral has been living in: its just too far gone with her help, and i've cleaned and cleaned it and can't get the smell out. Its about 40 years old, but decent, I think we're going to have to spread it with newspaper and vet beds. Still carpets had to come up eventually and before we can woodworm treat, so might as well do it now as later....just...its going to feel less homely and more temporary.

I put my fleeces off to the wool board but, although better prices this year, it's hardly much at all. I have advertised them privately & sold some that way - as they are top quality - shetland & such, it goes no way to pay for the shearing though.

I hope you got good prices. One of my fellow plotters is very much into spinning and weaving, ran into her at Masham Show. Hopefully I might start to learn to spin sometime this winter.

Glad you got good prices for the lambs (re other post).

Regarding your comment on genetics previously, have you looked at the RBST site for articles http://rbst.org.uk/files/Ark%20for%20Web%20Winter%202010.pdf - see p 14 onwards.

There is a really good article on sheep wool colour somewhere on there too. http://www.rbst.org.uk/files/Colour%20Inheritance%20in%20Sheep.pdf

Thanks for all the useful info guys. Doubt we'll look again before January. Still grieving the missed opportunity in St Dogs. We've put in a formal offer £10k under the current agreed price in case that sale fell through satisfying ourselves with reading atm, Five Acres and Security & John Seymour. Rhiw, that house looks lovely but OH considers Aberaeron a rubbish beach cos of the pebbles :} Agree with you about not restricting our search, Dave. Will print off your comments and think we'll use this guidance to do a bit more research/touring in our campervan next year. Hopefully it will be a tiny bit easier with the twins no longer babes in arms. Thanks for all your comments. They're really useful.

Oh that is the loveliest offer! Really? I'd be very grateful!

edit: I do feel a bit cheeky though, and would want to give you something for it.

Weather was gloomy and miserable yesterday but got my first outdoor sowing in for 2011, garlic, which somehow makes me feel winter is just the pause before all the new growth appears. Having said that got a lot of old growth yet to clear and compost :o

Keeping the greenhouse on frost protection for a few more weeks means we'll be enjoying toms and cucumbers in November, as well as the salad and leaf beet crops.

All the posts about fleeces makes me wonder whether we could spin wool, with DW knitting a storm one thing I've noticed is all the artificial yarn on sale, with pure wool very pricey. If any of you have done this could you take me through the sequence of events, when to buy/beg a fleece, washing, carding etc.

Still getting 3 eggs most days from the 3 hens, but that cant continue for much longer surely. Did invest in some low wattage outdoor lights so if laying tails off I may try those.

Got to drop off DS2 at work, then off to Scats' grand opening for chicken feed and Julia Bradbury :D

Just thought I'd show others how worthwhile your trip might be:

I'm off to the farm shop now to see how many of my peppers they've sold. It changes hands today, and the new owner has a certain 'Je ne sais quoi' about her too...... :)
