You're amazing Davesnave. we almost bought ..i.e. put in a serious offer, not ridiculously cheeky one...on the edge of Semley, I really like it over there, it has ''a good feeling''. In the end the plce went to auction and banks weren't moving quick enough at that time to be a safe auction bid for us.0 -

I think the name is perobably appropriate - 'Barker's Hill!'
It is a bit out of our old search area, but we did look at a couple of barns for development and some land at Cann, just outside Shaftesbury. We quickly learned that the vendor was not best chums with the local planning dept, and that every obstacle would be put in the way, so we decided to leave them to it.
The barns were nice, but an awkward height, while the soil was very sandy and not likely to be very fertile. There had been a lot of infill on the land to level the boggy areas and that had killed a fair few mature trees. It was a real curate's egg!0 -

I might have to contact waitrose for the contact details.
Done the rounds with my dd who is house sitting and in charge as of tomorrow. He thought my morning round would take about 1/2 an hour:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

How odd. As I say, I discovered it at Waitrose green button vote bit in the store, and it said farm animal rescue, which is f curse why it interested me. Its one of those things I mean to get round too.0

Sorry to disappoint but it's not me who's put in the offer. I had a good chat to the estate agent though (nice chap). As someone else pointed out it's on the main road so, despite the advantage of passing trade, not for us. We're trying to escape the traffic noise and pollution here. I'm beginning to feel like one of those annoying people on Location Location Location who have too low a budget and too high expectations... But we would have bought the place in Cardigan if we hadn't been pipped at the post, so we know there are properties out there that satisfy most of our criteria and that we can afford. My OH just wanders round the house ATM clutching the John Seymour book with an expectant look on his face
We will continue with our armchair search and I'll hassle the estate agents once a week whilst we make sure we are ready to move fast if need be. This involves painting the entire house and replacing the conservatory ready to rent it out. We live near the uni so we'll probably want it ready in Spring for those potential renters looking for somewhere to live at the academic year 2011/2012 which would tie in with us moving down there for our son starting school.0 -
Alfie, you think checking the animals is sad... The first thing I do when I get back from being away is to check all the plants! Especially if the weather's been hot; when I lived in a shared house my housemate was really scared of accidentally killing something while I was away!0
