    *Becky unlurks*

    Noooooooo :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Please dont do hills that way - very very very bad for the knee and ankle joints...

    Downhill running causes extreme eccentric loading, in fact Sebastian Coe used to do uphill training and then a get lift back down :p, for us mortals though the only proper way to run downhill is to shorten the stride, keep your knees slightly bent and be over on your centre of gravity (i.e. dont lean back)...

    If you want any more info on downhill running a think there's a section on hills in 'The Lore of Running' which is usually in most libraries :cool:

    Sorry trying to help protect your joints here :D

    *Becky goes back to lurking*

    Hmmmm.......now...when I went on my running weekend, they made us do hills in this way, kenyan hills they were....

    The chap taking the course was excellent with good credentials so I did trust him....(he also had a copy of the book 'the lore of running' which I must read one day)

    It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
    We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
    Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    I only know about muscles damage from eccentric loading from The British Medical Journal so maybe the research isnt backed up in running practice...who knows :confused:

    Hey everyone. Sorry I've not been around. It all kicked off here the night before the Manc meet which is why I couldn't make it, was gutted and still had to pay for the hotel. :( Was really sorry to miss everyone but everythings on the up again hopefully now so touch wood on the right track again.
    How's everyone been? Luc how's the baby? Any news I've missed?

    Hi I/A. Welcome back!

    I missed you guys too. I was coming. But ended up being sat at the train station in tears and just decided to go home and spare bringing anyone else down with me. I would've been no good to anyone!

    To be honest Becky it felt totally unatural at first until I relaxed into it....he told me to lengthen my stride and it felt so much better, I no longer seem to hunch up when I am going down hills (and there are a lot of hills near me).

    I may email the instructor and ask him for his thoughts on it.
