I really loved the biscuits that got served with a ladel full of yogurt. mmmmm
The melting moments were just wonderful!
  • I have just trawled through this very long but truly wonderful thread to find a recipe for cracknel and i can't find it!!it was like chocolate cornflake cake but chewy and gooey especially if left to lurk at the bottom of your school bag!I don't think it was made with chocolate hough so maybe cocoa?any ideas from you wonderful lot?!
  • It is the above mentioned book. Get one from the library if you don't want to buy your own copy. Don't think we can post recipes from published sources, copyright and all that!
  • Am I just being deeply cynical or could these recipes we can't reproduce because they are "copyright" actually have come from the various school dinner threads here on MSE forums?????? I've been dutifully cut and pasting chocolate crunch, manchester tart and gypsy tart recipes for over a year...mine just ended up in a folder on my PC...perhaps Becky Thorn's found their way to a publisher....the book came out in 2008! Fair play to the woman if that's the case....I won't be buying though. I have all I need for free - Old Style!;)

What you can't do is copy recipes word for word from books or other sources. You are then using the author's words which is breach of copyright.

You can, however describe the recipe in your own words with any adaptations you have made. Give the source of the recipe in your post and the book's author.
  • Thriftlady I just wanted to Thank you so much for sharing that you had bought this book. I followed suit and i am now a proud owner of this book.
The receipes and the names have stirred great school dinner memories with myself OH and our friends.

So far i have made cornflake tart , which was eaten by us and rest scrounged by friends :rotfl:

I have served mash potatoes from an ice cream scoop yesterday, much to the childrens amazement ( My DS thought he was in luck and i was giving him ice cream on his dinner :rotfl: )

I cant wait to try so many dishes from this book, to see if they are what i remember

So again Thank you Thriftlady :T

You could be right, most of these type of books are just copied from other sources and then reworked into "the author's own words".

Even Mrs Beeton's book was just a collection of bits from other books.

how do i make pink custard please. i really wanna make it tonight. I've read through and it says pink custard is blamange. which is fine i have that. but on the back it says how to make it up , and you have to leave it to cool to set. so how do i make it as custard ?

i'm sure it was warm when i was school, however not 100% on that.

    Thanks in advance.

Just pour it whilst it is still hot. If it looks a bit thick you could just thin it down with a little milk I think.
