Well lovely DFWs :), I thought I'd update my thread for the last time in 2006. It has been quite a year between you and I! Financially of course but also in many other ways that I don't think is appropriate to mention here.

It started off with me being in a serious financial pickle and vast misery about it all. Then found you lot and I was ready for a change! 10 months later lots of things are different and I am just soooooooo proud to have turned things around before things got really sticky

So, let me see, in no particular order and I am sure I've missed lots too...
    • I now open and read all my post and then file it meticulously
    • I am religious about keeping a spending diary each and every day and I know exactly where every penny has gone
    • I have created a good budget for myself and although I've tweaked it a few times, I think I am on the right track for it
    • As a result of feeling more confident and happy, I managed to get a temp promotion at work and £4,000 payrise a year :D
    • I overpay on my min payments by £300 on average each month!
    • I have made over £1,200 from mystery shopping/Quidco/Ebay/Amazon and it has all gone into debt overpayment
    • I now have a cashback credit card that I pay off in full every month and have £60 in cashback which will be used for me and not debt
    • I have a very open and honest relationship with the OH about money. We talk about it sensibly and we have not argued about money since March!
    • We have just bought our first house together and moved from a tiny one bedroom flat to a lovely 3 bedroom house
    • We have changed the way we food shop and eat. We now plan and buy sensibly, waste little if any at all and our food bill has dropped significantly
    • We have realised the magic powers of vinegar ans although not full old stylers - we are breadmaker and slow cooker converts!
    • I have a clear plan about 2007 and I am not scared/worried/panicked when it comes to my/our financial future!
    • I read/research MSE articles and forum before anything important is decided - it's the most useful resource! :T

When I found you, I was in tears, so upset I couldn't sleep and so worried I thought things would never improve. Now I am sitting here smilling and feeling positive and upbeat. It's quite unbelievable really! :o

I think all that's left is to have some aims for 2007....
    1. I will continue being organised and meticulous about my and our finances
    2. I will pay off the overdraft by February then save enough to pay my Tesco loan off 14 months early!
    3. Improve further on the food shopping/planning
    4. Get a permanent position similar to the temp I have now as I love it and the salary increase will help with other aims
    5. As soon as I am debt free, I will use my 'extra' income to build a next egg for us for emergencies
    6. Next thing after that is mortgage overpayments to get rid of this other necessary debt as soon as we can!
    7. More important than any other aim though, I will spend as much time as I can with my OH, family and loved ones because I know that each day we have is precious.

A very big THANK YOU for all your help and support and to Martin for creating this wonderful site!

Here's to a good year for us all
