Moozie - I saved money for my wedding by buying my dress from a dressmaker - she made it from scratch, exactly how I wanted based on 3 designs I picked from magazines, for £300! Also for little favours I bought lovely handmade soaps from E-bay in rose shape, as dark red was the theme. In terms of table themes, as I am half English and half Portuguese and Mr EL is half English half American, each table was themed to a place that meant something to us like Portugal, US, UK, Thailand etc....

Thanks for all the posts and advice since I last posted! Only just saw them :o I thought I'd post my latest newsto continue with the record keeping of my progress!

Let me see, debt first I think!

Mystery shopping and ebay are helping to add to my overpayments although things are a bit quiet lately. Not many mystery shopping opportunities in my area just now and I have ebayed most of my things, for the time being.

An unexpected £290 was left over from my parents' gift for the housebuying and the OH suggested I used it to pay off some debt. We could have done with using it as a cushion if we need it but it's gone to the credit card (CC2) now and that helped to clear it off. So closed it yesterday! :j

So here's what it looked like and where I am now :D
    March 06
    1. Creditor Amount owed
    2. CC 1 £51.56
    3. OD 1 £413.01
    4. C/gue £65
    5. CC 2 £2,415.08
    6. OD 2 £1,308.15
    7. Loan 1 £7,178.23 Final pmt Nov 07
    8. Loan 2 £6,601.57 Final pmt Feb 09
    9. Total owed £18,032.60

    November 06
    1. Creditor Amount owed
    2. CC 1 paid off
    3. OD 1 paid off
    4. C/gue paid off
    5. CC 2 paid off
    6. OD 2 £932.80
    7. Loan 1 £5,289.22 Final pmt Nov 07
    8. Loan 2 £4,904.02 Final pmt - aiming for Nov 07
    9. Total owed £11,126.04

The APRs were all over the place before but what I have left, is not bad at all. OD is 0% until April 07 and the loans are both on 6.5%. The plan is to pay the OD off by February then I will be saving my excess which isn't going into the CC and OD, into an ISA to pay Loan 2 in November 07, 14 months early ;) That's the grand plan anyway!

Next to new job. It is going well, the people are nice and the work is interesting. The increase in salary is helping tremendously! I got £370 more in my salary this month as it was more than one month of the new job :T I am putting all the extra on the debt as it's only a 6 month increase and I need to use it wisely. I can't wait to see what my normal pay will be so that i can fully plan how it will affect my repayments.

The house buying is going well. We have now signed lots of paperwork and although we had a concern over the surveyor's report, everything is going full steam ahead. We expect to exchange this week and then complete shortly after. I am very fortunate that the OH is not asking me to contribute to any of the costs and the increase in bills but we'll have to see what our new SOA looks like before we know for sure. Clearly, I'll be hunting down the cheapest providers but bills may take a little while to settle after we move in. In any case, even if I have to contribute more to the joint account, the new job comes in handy for that ;)

The wedding looks like it could be a Christmas 07 one. We'd love it to be a Christmas 06 one but we have to be realistic. We will have to save for it and even if we have the cheapest event, we will still need to plan it and at the moment, all his money goes into the new house and all my planning goes into paying my debt off quicker!

Life feels good at the moment though. Lots of lovely things happening, just wish the loved ones we lost earlier in the year were with us to enjoy.

That's it really - 9 months down the line, 38.3% of the way, £6,906 lighter, engaged  about to move, in a new (if temp) job and all that with the OH that I was dreading to talk finances with! Life eh....if I can do it, anyone can!

And I bet when you made your first post you never thought you'd be saying that!

I'm so chuffed for you, its fab how far you've come and being in control of your finances has obviously affected so many other areas of your life. :T

Am sat here with a big grin on my face after reading that! :D

A pig???   A cow, you mean, surely! :D

Seriously though, yes absolutely. The mortgage we got was a reasonable deal, 2 years fixed, but when we re-mortgage, I'll be making sure the deal is superb and that we pay it off long before it's due to finish ;)

Learning skills for life in here, I tell you!
