tea bags - nice cheaper alternative...?
Comments

On a similar topic, has anyone found a cheaper source of fruit tea? They tend to come in boxes of 20 and cost anything from 87p (eg Asda own brand), £1.40 - Twinings (price does vary store to store).
I like the idea of buying loose fruit tea. Does anyone know of suppliers?
As I'm growing some raspberries and tayberries this year, and mother in law has lots of blackcurrents, might there be a way of making it myself?0 -
I tried the little teapot 440 bags for £2.50 from farmfoods and had to strangle each bag to get the tea to turn brown:rotfl: .I think I'm with the "penny a tea bag" gang from now on.Now back to strangling I've still got a lot of tea bags to get through."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

pg tips are the best and they arent expensive its nice to have a decent cup of tea there is more tea in their bags than others you get what you pay for?:footie:0

I was a confirmed PG and nothing else type but in Poundland they have Typhoo bags at 1.00 (funnily enough...), 1.80 minimum in other shops. And they're very nice indeed0

Even T bags are better in a pot. I use one bag in a pot, and can get 4 decent cups out as long as I leave it to brew. You get a better flavour leaving it for 5 minutes with more water than leaving it for 30 seconds with less water. And I'm not a "wave a bag in the general direction" person either. I buy Clipper, which are expensive because I don't like the bags to be bleached, and they are fairtrade which is a MUST in my book, but get so many cups out of each bag I don't think I spend any more on them. You need a Tea Cosy as well of course....0

hi all,
As i've just run out of PG pyramid tea bags i thought about getting something cheaper this time. It's nearly £2 for 80 at the supermarkets.
I shop at Sainsburys normally and noticed they have basics at 28p, other sorts including organic ones, all cheaper than the PG ones. Can anyone recommend a good alternative? Or somewhere with the pyramid ones on offer?
Many thanks

Tea and coffee you can get really good quality if you go for the premium own-brands. Supermarket's 'gold' tea bags are usually very good.
Personally I don't like PG Tips, it's a kinda 'grey' tea and I like bright orangey tea :-)
'Punjana' is a good strong Indian tea from an ethical family firm and often on 2-for-1 at Tesco's0 -
Forgot to add:
If you brew tea in a pot, try 'Miles' tea or teabags (it's blended by a family firm in Somerset) It may *look* expensive but you only need 1 bag for 2 people to make a really excellent cuppa if you brew it in the old-fashioned (best!) way.

I buy their tea or Punjana wherever I can0 -

The Sainsburys basics ones are really good and Fair Trade.
You can't really ask for more for 28p for 80!
I tend to buy fairtrade red labels teabags from sainsburys. Tried morrisons but weren't very nice at all. They on offer at the mo 2 for £2
Thanks for stumpycat had no idea the really cheap ones were fairtrade guess what i'm going to buy now whoo hoo!!0
